JOB TITLE: Adult Education Instructor (Automotive Repair, CDL, HVAC)
DEPARTMENT: Vocational Training Center
REPORTS TO: Director of Vocational Training Center
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Under the general direction of the Director of the Vocational Training Center, the Adult Education Instructor will be responsible for training and supporting students enrolled in the VTC in Automotive Repair, CDL Class B, HVAC, or Drone Operations. Adult Education Instructors work directly with students in the classroom setting. These instructors will play a key role in empowering adult learners by equipping them with practical skills and theoretical knowledge to succeed in high-demand industries. The ideal candidate is passionate about their trade, has relevant experience, and is adept at both classroom teaching and hands-on instruction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Instruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methods, such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
- Observe and evaluate students' performance.
- Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements.
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by Agency and regulatory entities.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injury and damage.
- Prepare materials and classroom for class activities.
- Assign and grade class work and homework.
- Instruct students in the knowledge and skills required in a specific occupation or occupational field using a systematic plan of lectures, discussions, audio-visual presentations, and laboratory, shop, and field studies.
- Use computers, audio-visual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
- Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
- Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
- Prepare students for job placement by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
- Plan and supervise work-experience programs in-house.
- Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress.
- Guide and counsel students with adjustments, problems, or special academic interests.
- Provide students with disabilities with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities, such as restrooms.
- Plan and supervise projects, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.
- Place students in jobs or make referrals to job placement services.
- Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help.
- Select, order, store, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Prepare and submit regular progress reports and updates on students to program administrators as required.
- Establishes and maintains a professional working relationship with NCIA staff and students.
- Contributes to a work atmosphere which is positive, enthusiastic, responsible and courteous.
- Uses technology for the completion of specified job duties.
- Attends work regularly according to assigned schedule and accordance with Agency policy.
- Attends and participates in in-service training, staff meetings, and other activities to facilitate professional development.
- Acts as a positive role model for students(s) and NCIA staff.
- Performs other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma
- Relevant experience in areas of expertise, Automotive Repair, CDL, and HVAC.
- Automotive Repair Instructor:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the automotive repair industry.
- ASE certifications preferred
- CDL Class B Instructor:
- Valid CDL Class B license with endorsements (Passenger, Air Brakes, Tanker).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience driving commercial vehicles.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, vehicle safety checks, and defensive driving techniques.
- Previous experience as a CDL instructor or in driver training is preferred.
- HVAC Instructor:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the HVAC industry.
- EPA certification and knowledge of HVAC systems, repair, and installation.
- Familiarity with HVAC diagnostic tools and safety protocols.
- Prior teaching or training experience in HVAC systems is
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to simplify complex concepts and make learning accessible.
- Ability to read and interpret documents and a variety of manuals, such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.

REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Hold and maintain a certification relevant or five years minimum experience to course of instruction.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid non-provisional driver’s license from state of residence and acceptable driving record as determined by criteria established by the Agency’s insurance carrier and by Agency policy.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Walking significant distances.
- Running occasionally.
- Standing for a significant amount of time, up to two hours occasionally.
- Lifting or pushing 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently.
- Frequent reaching, stooping, grasping, balancing, kneeling, and crouching.
- Sufficient visual acuity to observe general surroundings and activities of students.
- Sufficient hearing ability to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levels.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Both indoor and outdoor environments, with potential exposure to weather elements, such as rain, wind, or snow.
- Work environment may include video and/or audio monitoring
- Moderate noise level.
