This position is responsible for developing and updating the NCCN Guidelines for Patients which are based on the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines). The Medical Writer works with the Patient Information team including graphic designers, marketing and finance members, Clinical Information Department, and the NCCN Foundation. Other responsibilities include projects related to the NCCN Guidelines for Patients, including managing webinars and other patient education content.
Requirements
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Develop, author, and organize new NCCN Guidelines for Patients for online and print publication
- Create patient-friendly descriptions, explanations, and background information for each patient guideline to supplement content from the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines
- Plan, write, edit, update, format / reformat, and finalize the NCCN Guidelines for Patients to reflect updates to the clinical practice guidelines
- Develop evidence-based health content for a limited-literacy audience
- Understand and conform to commonly accepted standards of appropriate grammar and punctuation
- Incorporate health literacy, plain language, and numeracy principles and best practices into NCCN Guidelines for Patients and other patient content
- Create tables / charts, using Adobe InDesign, that accurately reflect the clinical content
- Select appropriate images—photos and medical illustrations—for additional clarification; modify and fuse medical illustrations as needed to correctly reflect accompanying text
- Communicate with appropriate NCCN staff, and NCCN Panel experts to clarify and confirm patient guideline content as needed
- Coordinate medical review of patient guideline by appropriate panel member; ensure medical reviews are received in a timely manner; and incorporate reviewers' comments / suggestions / changes into patient guidelines
- Communicate with Patient Advocacy organizations that support the NCCN Guidelines for Patients
- Proofread all patient guideline material
- Attend Guidelines Panel meetings for assigned patient guidelines
- Attend bi-weekly update meetings—update team members on status / progress of guidelines being developed or updated
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Minimal travel may be required
