About the National Constitution Center
The National Constitution Center is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization devoted to teaching about the Constitution. Located on Philadelphia’s historic Independence Mall, steps from where the Constitution was drafted and signed, it serves as America’s leading platform for constitutional education and debate, fulfilling its congressional charter “to disseminate information about the U.S. Constitution on a nonpartisan basis in order to increase awareness and understanding of the Constitution among the American people.”
Position Summary
The Development intern will join the Center’s high-tempo development team in its mission to attract and cultivate individual, foundation, and corporate donors in support of the Center’s urgent mission. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about nonprofit fundraising and strategy at an organization primed for growth in the years ahead. The Development intern will learn about donor prospecting, donor cultivation, solicitation and grant reporting, strategic planning, direct mail, and database management. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about the Center’s mission and seeks to understand all aspects of nonprofit development and strategy. The Development intern will specifically assist the Development team with operational activities including, but not limited to, database maintenance, file management, donor mailings, and strategic activities such as donor prospecting and other special projects. We also encourage our interns to take initiative in developing their own internship-long project in consultation with the department and to practice drafting key communications for the team. Additionally, we offer our interns enrichment and networking opportunities with the rest of the museum staff. Such activities typically include participating in behind-the-scenes tours of our exhibits, listening in on our live podcast recordings, exploring other local museums, and more.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Research prospective donors and grant opportunities
- Assist with database management
- Assist with donor communications, preparing and mailing quarterly solicitation letters, acknowledgement letters, and other development-related correspondence, and monitoring and responding to donor queries via development inbox and voicemail
- Draft donor communications and solicitations in collaboration with the Development team
- Organize files and records at the Center
- Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- Strong interest in the Center’s mission
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program (upperclassmen status or prior nonprofit internship experience preferred), or graduate degree program in nonprofit management, public administration, or related field
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized and keen attention to detail
- High level of discretion
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required, familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and SQL databases a plus

- This internship opportunity is on-site at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, PA
- The Development team will work with the selected intern on a mutually agreed upon schedule and number of hours of work per week. Ideally a part-time intern can devote 20 hours per week to the Center; a full-time intern would devote 40 hours per week to the Center.
- A lump-sum stipend, the amount of which is commensurate with education level, will be paid to all interns who can fulfill, at minimum, 6 weeks of service at an average of at least 15 hours per week.
