Job Summary:

The Business Development Specialist II will be a liaison between NCTC and member companies for the promotion and sale of products and services to NCTC’s broadband, telecom, electric, municipality, and cable television member companies. The individual will work closely with both highly engaged members who actively use NCTC solutions and those who are less involved, helping to support and strengthen their engagement. This person will be customer oriented and responsible for identifying new business opportunities and creating lasting relationships with NCTC members in direct support of NCTC’s internal departments but primarily its Group Purchasing department.

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is: $65,000 to $85,000, Candidates expecting a higher salary should demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Established Industry Knowledge. Multiple years experience in the broadband, wireless mobile/telephone, or video business; preference for experience ISP’s, electric cooperatives and/or similar roles.
  • Demonstrable Success. Proven ability in business development, overseeing sales, customer service and/or similar roles.
  • Sustained Ability Showing Business Growth. Proven success in expanding customer engagement, attracting new accounts, and strengthening partnerships that drive long-term success.

Officing Expectation:

This position is a hybrid meaning the employee will work two days per week in the Overland Park, Kansas office.


Work Schedule:

The schedule for this job is 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Manage both existing sales pipelines across multiple suppliers and develop new business opportunities with members, promoting NCTC’s portfolio of solutions at a detailed level.
  • Participate in the development of proposals and presentations both internally and externally, to create and nurture business opportunities and partnerships across members and suppliers.
  • Maintain a high level of visibility in the field, meet with current and prospective members to communicate products and services NCTC has available to support them as members; this may include attending and exhibiting at industry conferences.
  • Must be able to professionally interact with all levels of management, members, vendor partners and co-workers to create strong working relationships.
  • Will help coordinate and assist with member outreach to better assess member needs and help members understand the NCTC value proposition.
  • Identify industry trends, new solutions and member needs, building a short/medium/long-term sales pipeline in accordance with organizational goals.
  • Identify, build, and manage long-term relationships with decision makers and key influences at member companies.
  • Positively represents NCTC in its relationships with external constituencies.
  • Approximately 25% travel required throughout the United States to support business needs.
  • Travel to industry / member events as needed which may include weekends.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of the typical headend/central office servicing video, broadband and other services via coax, IP, fiber, and other delivery methods.
  • Working knowledge of broadband deployment technologies, including DOCSIS, DSL, FTTH, fixed wireless, residential CPE and outside plant commodities.
  • Ability to understand member company challenges, provide tailored recommendations, and act as trusted advisor rather than a salesperson.
  • Understanding of industry trends, competitor strategies, and ability to identify new opportunities that drive business success.
  • Ability to track and communicate member visits/analytics.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills, along with ability to listen to others, respond professionally to feedback and ask questions to ensure understanding.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with external customers and coworkers.
  • Must be able to work well and build rapport with all levels of management and staff both internally at NCTC and within member companies.
  • Highly motivated energetic self-starter, passionate and knowledgeable about cable, telecommunications and/or electric companies that have a focus on broadband products and services.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of cable, broadband and/or telecommunications experience and/or 2 years of experience in business development, overseeing sales, customer services and/or similar support roles.
