Business Development Officer, Impact Banking
National Cooperative Bank is seeking a highly motivated business development officer to join the Impact Banking team. Impact Banking fulfills the Bank’s cooperative and low-income mission by focusing on markets utilizing the cooperative model as an effective tool in economic and community development and/or serving low to moderate income communities. Impact Banking strategically differentiates NCB in mission aligned niche and emerging markets where NCB can be a key player, leverage its core competencies and national focus, utilize specialty underwriting and provide excellent customer service.
The primary responsibility for this job is to grow existing and generate new healthcare banking relationships. The position has the potential to evolve, over time, to include a secondary emphasis in growing business in other Impact Banking sectors such as innovative affordable cooperative housing. NCB’s healthcare focus is guided by its mission and strategic plan, currently focusing on community-based healthcare, Federally Qualified Health Clinics (FQHC) and Program for All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). New business would be developed through the existing customer base, industry contacts, networking, referrals, and prospecting/outside calling.
Candidates should have knowledge of State and Federal programs (i.e. Medicaid and Medicare) for FQHC/PACE, experience in loan structuring, work with New Tax Credits and also have the ability to recognize and refer opportunities for deposit and treasury management services. Credit facilities are typically project-finance and also include traditional bank lending. Financing is provided for start-up, construction, expansion and stabilized organizations and facilities. In addition, the position will also require work with the relationship and portfolio managers. Customers are located nationwide with a concentration of current healthcare customers located in California.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
1. Business Development:
- Lead new transaction development and execution across a range of loan product offerings from client origination through structuring and closing. Work collaboratively with internal teams: Relationship Management, Underwriting, Credit, Closing and Treasury Management.
- Undertake activities that expand the market presence of NCB and promote the level of brand awareness of NCB within the Healthcare industry (with particular focus on the sectors identified previously). Stay abreast of industry issues and potential areas market expansion.
- Travel 40% - 50% of the time.
2. Maintain knowledge of assigned loan portfolio. Work with Relationship Manager and internal departments, as needed, to ensure loan compliance, maintain system of record and provide excellent customer service.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
- Bachelor's Degree required with a minimum of 10 of lending experience and 5 years of healthcare related experience.
- Demonstrated experience in business generation and formal credit training or equivalent credit experience necessary
- Knowledge and experience with community development financing tools including tax credits, lending to not-for-profit organizations, cooperatives and affordable housing, preferred
- Ability to understand and structure transactions that include multi-stakeholders and loan participants. Credit facilities range from $500,000 to $40,000,000. Sales revenue of customers range from under $1 million to $200 million.
