Position Emphasis: This position supports the NEA’s strategic objective of focusing the energy and resources of its 3 million members on promoting public confidence in public education by providing professional expertise in the Center for Organizing and Affiliate Services.
Position Summary:
SELECTION CRITERIA: TIER 1 (Essential): Demonstrated skill and experience in organizing, member engagement, and leading issue organizing campaigns. Demonstrated skills and experience in coaching member organizers and others to drive issue organizing campaigns. Demonstrated skill in designing and managing data systems to support distributed organizing campaigns. Demonstrated skill and experience in facilitating and sustaining coalitions Demonstrated skill and experience in writing, analyzing, and implementing organizing plans. Demonstrated effective written and oral communication for diverse and activist audiences. Effective consultation, facilitation, and coaching skills. Demonstrated ability to evaluate, lead, plan, organize, and coordinate team efforts. Demonstrated commitment to infusing values of racial and social justice in the work. Demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively on cross-functional and diverse teams (internal and external). Successful references. TIER 2 (Significant): Proven flexibility and effectiveness in handling multiple and complex projects simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing priorities/conditions. Demonstrated ability to present and coordinate special presentations, workshops, education/training programs, and events related to expertise. Position Summary:
- The essential functions of this position include: developing, promoting, and implementing the Center’s national leadership development programming to support C4O’s field organizing to increase affiliate growth and strength. The work will center advancement of the Center’s foci on building local capacity, empowering members and support for peer-to-peer organizing learning networks.
- This work may include support for planning committees of national conferences that the Center is responsible for - on agenda construction, content design, presenter preparation and overall implementation, as well as Center support for NCUEA convenings and Campaign Lab training programs.
- The incumbent facilitates and schedules meetings, including planning meetings, trainings, peer coaching, and debriefs.
- Applying effective adult learning principles, the incumbent will coordinate and deliver in-person trainings and facilitate online learning using various virtual engagement platforms and strategies.
- The incumbent assists on annual reviews and revisions of program purpose, design and implementation with stakeholders.
- This work includes establishing and maintaining collaboration with external national stakeholders and to identify opportunities for shared training and coalition-building across organizations and networks.
- The incumbent will have responsibility for development and use of databases to track, and help inform the evaluation of, program work in affiliates across the country.
- The work requires collaboration throughout the NEA enterprise, and is accomplished under the leadership of the C4O Manager for Leadership Development Programs.
- To carry out these responsibilities, the incumbent uses a laptop, and a variety of NEA-endorsed technology. The position is headquarters based and may include some travel.
