What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Accountant position at National Electrical Benefit Fund?
JOB SUMMARY – The Associate Accountant is responsible for implementing management goals, policies, processes, and procedures to ensure the accurate and timely processing of all accounting-related functions by employing the general accounting processes of recordkeeping and ensuring all compliance deadlines are met.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares monthly bank reconciliations for each Plan by expected due dates
- Maintains Accounts Payable historical trial balance and prepares 1099NEC by the due date
- Maintains and reconciles intercompany accounts
- Reconciles Local Collection Agents’ Lockbox deposits on receipt of LCA’s 815 form and communicates with Local Collection Agents and the Employer Services Department to resolve differences noted during the reconciliation process
- Performs other Balance Sheet related reconciliations such as Pre-paid expenses, Fixed Assets, Investments, and payroll withholdings
- Prepares and reviews biweekly payroll and reconciles ADP payroll entries to the General Ledger for NEBF and FMCP; prepares leave balance reports for the bargaining unit of each Plan
- Prepares journal entries and reconciliations for other balance sheet accounts and various other general ledger accounts, as needed
- Reviews and posts journal entries created by other staff members
- Maintains schedules on leases such as for rent, equipment, etc. and prepares necessary reconciliations
- Prepares reports as needed for internal and external reporting
- Assists in the compilation of various audit schedules and documentation
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED AND PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- 3 years of progressive accounting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other related field or equivalent experience required
- Knowledge of ERISA and employee benefit plans
- Familiarity with Taft-Hartley Multi-Employer benefit plans is preferred
- Must be well organized and have strong communication, presentation, and leadership skills
- Proven ability to work with different management styles
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Demonstrates ability to manage complex issues while maintaining a flexible, positive, and cooperative demeanor
- Responds promptly to operations leaders and stakeholders to facilitate informed decision-making
- Troubleshoots assigned issues, gathers evidence and investigates all relevant information with participants, vendors, and internal departments to resolve the problem in a cooperative and collaborative manner
