Diesel mechanics or technicians are responsible for performing mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles and heavy equipment in transit and freight. They are fluent in the maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems. Diesel mechanics or technicians also complete repair or service reporting, order and inventory necessary parts, fabricate necessary parts or equipment, develop and execute service or repair processes,
Responsibilities :
Service Department Operations
- Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts.
- Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance; installing component and parts; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
- Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, components, parts within systems such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
- Interprets diagnostic test results accurately.
- Writes detailed inspection reports and repair plans.
- Collaborates with other diesel technicians.
- Perform test drive to gauge performance.
- Adhere to inspection procedure checklist.
- Uses power, machine, and hand tools safely.
- Follows all repair shop regulations and standards
- Ensure a safe and clean work environment.
- Follow procedures for quick and efficient handling of warranty items, including tagging and proper storage of these items.
