Salary : $70,000- $85,000
POSITION OVERVIEW
Manage copy flow from editing through design and production for three publications, ensuring that all internal and external deadlines are met. Serve as liaison to printer.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate traffic and flow of all text from editor through the production cycle to print and distribution.
- Meet and enforce all publication deadlines for The Director magazine (80 pages, print, monthly), Memorial Business Journal (8-12 pages, email, weekly) and The Director.edu (13-20 pages, email, quarterly), plus the monthly digital app for The Director.
- Editing, copy-editing, proofreading, factchecking, copyfitting, voice and tone, style, and writing headlines, decks, readouts and captions.
- Collaborate with Editor in Chief to generate story ideas
- Work closely with art director on monthly Director cover concepting; contribute visual ideas for The Director and Memorial Business Journal .
- Work with a freelance writer / editor on specific assignments for each of the three publications.
- Coordinate with editor on granting reprint permission when appropriate.
- NFDA liaison to Sheridan Printing for The Director : arrange and schedule riders for such internal NFDA clients as Education, Business Development, Funeral Service Foundation and Membership, to include inserts / onserts, cover wraps and polybags.
- Exhibit flexible and innovative approaches while performing essential responsibilities and assignments and participating in strategic leadership, management and special project teams.
- Promote and assist in carrying out the Associations mission, vision and goals in a manner consistent with the Associations stated values.
- Embrace and actively participate in a variety of work teams as requested or assigned.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelors degree in a related field (communications, journalism, English), along with 10 years of editing experience. Must be proficient in Mac-based desktop publishing utilizing InDesign. Excellent writing and editing / proofreading skills necessary. Experience managing digital content is ideal. Time management and strong organizational and interpersonal skills a must. Association experience helpful. Some travel may be required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for a long time period, use hands / fingers to manipulate a computer keyboard, communicate verbally and hear, and lift up to 35 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
