ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
Founded in 1908, the National Governors Association is the bipartisan organization of Governors from the 55 states, territories and commonwealths. NGAs mission is to share best practices, address issues of national and state interest, and drive innovative solutions that improve state government and support the principles of federalism.
NGAs Center for Best Practices is the policy and research arm that helps Governors develop and implement solutions to public policy challenges. NGAs Government Relations group assists in ensuring the voice of Governors are heard in Congress, and the Executive Branch and NGAs Communications team collaborates with Governors offices to amplify bipartisan messaging and strategy.
Throughout the year, NGA convenes Governors and senior advisors for meaningful discourse, problem-solving and thought leadership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
The Development Manager will collaborate with the Chief Development Officer to manage the NGA Partners and Foundation Program including prospecting, marketing, communications, solicitation, benefit fulfillment and stewardship. Other important responsibilities of the Development Manager include:
NGA Partners Program management:
- Support the renewal and growth of corporate partnerships by playing an active role in managing day-to-day stewardship of Partner deliverables and programming;
- Serve as a project manager for conference-related development activities;
- Attend policy and networking events with other Development staff;
- Create strategic, tailored cultivation and stewardship plans for NGA Partners that results in successful retention of current donors and that maximizes the giving potential of potential Partners;
- Support creative and strategic outreach plans to engage prospects and NGA Partners;
- Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer to plan and implement fundraising strategies; and
- Other duties as assigned by Chief Development Officer.
Departmental activities management and execution to include, but not limited to:
- Support departmental prospect research for both philanthropic and corporate giving;
- Serve as a liaison to staff for development projects/activities/requests/programs and annual meetings;
- Coordinate necessary internal and external resources to ensure that all NGA products/services are accessible to partners;
- Create presentations and outreach activities for NGA events/conferences, and similar type activities);
- Support in the building and management of ongoing and new relationships with key stakeholders, funders and sponsors;
- Support the accurate data entry of all funders and their key contacts into Microsoft CRM Dynamics database;
- Track and maintain outgoing invoices and incoming checks/wire transfers while handling any compliance needs; and
- Other duties as assigned by Chief Development Officer.
Oversight, strategic direction and development of division communications:
- Support departmental prospect research and implement integrated messaging, marketing and communications to increase the engagement and contributions of current and potential donors;
- Design, curate and execute all division communications for the NGA Partners program;
- Prepare, deliver and track donor/funder correspondence as needed;
- Work across the organization to develop Partner narratives and coordinated activities;
- Update and manage the NGA Partner website and collateral;
- Be committed to NGAs mission and goals to constructively serve the needs of all Governors; and
- Other duties as assigned by Chief Development Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ideal candidates should have a bachelors degree with a minimum of 2 plus years of direct experience working in areas of fundraising responsibilities, foundation grants, or corporate donations. Experience working with Governors, working in federal or state agencies or non-profit organizations is preferred.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to:
- Effectively represent NGA under a variety of circumstances, including interactions and meetings with funders and networking opportunities at conferences;
- Have excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills;
- Have an existing portfolio of relationships with funders desirable;
- Have a proven track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals;
- Have an optimistic outlook and a flexible, innovative approach to problem-solving;
- Successfully have utilized customer relationship management system;
- Manage multiple projects;
- Strong knowledge of MS Office suite, Adobe, Canva and iContact preferred; and
- Travel, as necessary.

COMPENSATION
Salary Range: $70,000 - $120,000 annually. This salary range represents a good faith estimate of the lowest to the highest salary for this position. The final title and salary offered will be based on qualifications and experience.
