Job Purpose
The Senior Engineer is responsible for delivering technical evaluations of potential Renewable Gas production and / or hydrogen facilities that will provide low carbon energy derived from renewable power, municipal wastewater, solid waste, farm waste, or other sources of organic waste in support of the Company’s Clean Energy Vision.
The Senior Engineer will also be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of Company guidelines and standards associated with the safe and economically advantageous interconnection of renewable gas and / or green hydrogen production facilities with the Company’s gas distribution systems in accordance with industry best practices, laws, and state regulatory requirements.
Key Accountabilities
- Perform basic or standard engineering analysis and conceptual design of the interconnection of third-party renewable gas or hydrogen supply facilities to local gas distribution networks in accordance with industry standards.
- Ensure the design of physical interconnections to the gas distribution systems are safe, reliable, not disruptive to the community, environmentally superior, and economically optimized.
- Manage timelines and coordinate with renewable energy developers, regulatory agencies, permitting agencies, and various Company functions.
- Evaluate and determine the impact of the interconnections on communities, specifically Environmental Justice or Economically Disadvantaged Communities.
- Provide technical support to all aspects of the development process for Renewable Gas and / or hydrogen developers.
- Prepare regulatory filings and respond to regulatory inquiries while supporting outreach to the communities impacted.
- Oversee renewable gas or hydrogen interconnection projects and report progress.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing among MA and NY technical teams and the wider National Grid workforce.
