Job Purpose
National Grid is seeking Meter Service Representatives for our Central Territory which covers our yards in theWebster, Braintree, Dorchester, West Roxbury, Waltham, Hyde Park, & Leominster locations throughout Massachusetts.We are a major electricity and gas delivery company with one of the largest electricity transmission and distribution systems in the Northeast. The ideal candidate for this position will possess a good driving record and be focused on customer, personal and coworker safety. Meter Service Representatives work within the natural gas side of the operation to provide timely and quality service to our customers while maintaining high customer service.
Key Accountabilities
- All meter reading activities including but not limited to :
- Shut off meters as trained and qualified.
- Field collection activity including but not limited to :
- Terminating service and / or collecting customer payments.
- General shop work (e.g. Housekeeping, junking, shipping, deliveries / pickups, etc.)
- Assist in 2-person assignments as needed.
- Assist with pipe fitting up to 2 inches.
- Driving is a significant portion of the workday in various-sized company vehicles.
- May be required to handle substances considered hazardous under the U.S. Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Law or the Massachusetts Right to Know Law.
- Interact with internal departments and company employees to ensure an efficient overall process.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and efficient resource utilization, both throughout the department and project teams.
- Will also be expected to respond to emergency call out and work extended and planned hours when company emergencies occur.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to obtain gas pipeline operator qualification for progression in this career.

Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company's testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
Many of the terms and conditions of employment for this position are defined by a collective bargaining agreement that the Company has with a local union. Newly hired employees are bound by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement as well as other agreements between the Company and the local union.
