National Grid is hiring a Principal System Planning Engineer - Successful candidate can be located in either our Waltham, MA, Boston, MA, or our Brooklyn, NY office.
Job Purpose
National Grid Ventures (NGV) is looking for a knowledgeable, curious, and driven Principal System Planning Engineer to join our Grid Integration and System Planning Team. This individual will support our NGV projects by carrying out transmission analysis and managing generator and transmission interconnection processes in the Eastern Interconnect, particularly MISO. They will ensure that work products are generated to provide sufficient decision-making information to management and to effectuate the interconnection of projects the transmission system. This role will provide support to key initiatives driving NGV's growth and partnerships throughout the US.
Key Accountabilities
- Perform, lead, or facilitate engineering and transmission assessments and analyses.
- Support and advise on production cost modeling, economic and regional market evaluations to assist in key strategic insights, identify or confirm project opportunities and solutions.
- Apply innovative approaches to simulation and analysis that can help identify or support new initiatives.
- Lead technical analysis as needed to support potential project partnerships.
- Document, present and report findings and justifications. Help prepare executive summaries or investment committee papers.
- Support or lead on siting, permitting and licensing requirements and / or hearings, if required.
- Represent National Grid interests on national, regional, and local levels when necessary.
- Oversee consultants, engineers or other subject matter experts as required to augment or complement the Business Development team.
- Work in a project team and matrix environment interacting with individuals across National Grid functions in the US and UK.

New England MA : $162,000 - $190,000 a year
Downstate NY : $173,000 - $203,000 a year
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
