What You'll Do
Our Transmission Asset Management (TAM) team oversees all of our transmission assets operating at 69kV and above within National Grid’s New England territory, encompassing over 3,000 miles of transmission lines and more than 200 substations. This team’s primary goal is to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the transmission network. As they play a pivotal role in developing comprehensive 10-year plans to prioritize and deliver high-quality projects that address system needs. This team designs both Inspection and Maintenance plans to maximize the performance and longevity of our transmission assets.
As a Gridtern, you will have the opportunity to participate in various site visits to our substations and transmission lines, contributing to the development of numerous project scopes that will be incorporated into our 10-year plan. Through training sessions and collaboration with team members, this role will provide you with a deeper understanding of transmission lines and substations while enabling you to assess and evaluate their asset health.
You will be in Waltham, MA working in a Hybrid structure for the summer. You must be located within a commutable distance to the identified work location for the summer.

Salary Range
$24.00 - $26.00 an hour (Undergraduate Student)
Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year. Our Gridtern Program does not offer relocation, housing assistance, or public transportation reimbursement for Gridterns; however, we can provide a list of resources to utilize in making your arrangements.
Must reside within our existing footprint, which includes Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont. As a Gridtern, you should also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to your assigned primary office.

What You'll Need
- Availability to start on program start date, May 27, 2025, and work full-time (40 hours a week) throughout your duration of the summer
- Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for Fall 2025 Semester
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related majors
- Accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age
- Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (including CPT & OPT)
- Valid US Driver’s license with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy.
