DEPARTMENT: Nursing
SUPERVISOR: Charge Nurse
WORK AREA: Entire Facility
PURPOSE: Assistance and support to the nursing staff to enhance the delivery of care and services.
WORKING HOURS: Hours of work are 0 to 80 hours per pay period plus or minus as business needs and assigned by the Supervisor or Staffing Coordinator.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to bend, stoop, and move steadily throughout the facility.
LIMITATIONS: This position will not perform any duties that require nursing assistant certification (SC) / listing (NC).
HIPAA MINIMUM NECESSARY: Responsible to adhere to HIPAA MINIMUM NECESSARY guidelines and safeguard protected health information.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of grammar school education is essential and high school education or equivalent is preferred. Must possess out-going personality, ability to relate with mentally impaired residents, willingness to accept flexible working schedule, self-motivation and ability to work with minimum supervision. Must be able to communicate with residents.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clocks in and reports to assigned work area on time in appropriate attire per facility dress code.
- Understands and adheres to universal precautions and minimum personal hand hygiene standards.
- Maintaining residents rooms in a neat and orderly fashion including: making unoccupied beds, returning overbed tables to proper location and assisting in maintaining neat bedside tables.
- Delivery of ice water to residents rooms on a daily basis.
- Assisting residents to dining room and activities as assigned by the Supervisor.
- Assisting in meal delivery to residents as assigned. Feeding residents as assigned after receiving proper instruction.
- Monitoring residents rooms for safety including: elimination of unwrapped food, loose cords and unauthorized cigarettes and lighters, position of bed cranks, height of bed, bed alarms and other devices in place as appropriate.
- Assisting in grooming as schedule permits.
- May accompany residents to out of facility physician visits, etc. as assigned.
- May assist in stocking of supplies and clean linen carts.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
