The Director is responsible for operations management by effectively leading a team of staff for effective delivery of member programs and services, membership sales and customer service.
Duties
- Supervises full and part time Managers, Assistant Managers, Fitness Specialists, Personal Trainers, Group Fitness Instructors, Service Desk and Membership Staff. May also include NIFS internship program or volunteers.
- Maintains regular communication with staff:
- Ensures that the fitness center members’ needs are met satisfactorily; verifies that the fitness center's exercise programs comply with current ACSM standards and recommendations.
- Coordinates the development, integration, and implementation of fitness programs, wellness education programs, and special events: devises incentive program to encourage facility use as well as stimulates interest in fitness center programs.
- Ensures proper records of members
- Provides counsel to Managers regarding onsite staffing and/or customer service issues; assists in resolving member complaints where applicable
- Facilitates staff training for enhanced programming, emergency preparedness and professional development including current CPR/AED and first aid certifications
- Evaluates monthly engagement and membership data for best practices and process improvement; sets expectations with Managers accordingly
- Oversees effective maintenance of NIFS membership database and procedures for accurate and timely customer billing
- Documents routine communication
- Oversees NIFS Athletic Performance services including managing new and existing customer agreements, staff oversight, and effective service delivery. Reports on service outcomes.
- Directs NIFS Continuing Education Services, managing our registered dietitian services through the Allied Health Partners relationship and new customer agreements.
- Oversees NIFS Group Fitness offerings both internally for members and NIFS-community based classes in Indianapolis.
- Administers annual and semi-annual performance reviews to managers and staff (where applicable)
- Oversees timely completion of emergency procedure audits, equipment and cleaning maintenance records, etc…Facilitates equipment repairs and new equipment purchases; ensures a safe and clean environment
- Effectively manages the approved budget and staff spending against the budget; assists in the creation of the operations budget and capital requests for equipment and facility needs.
- Oversees personnel matters related to payroll, onboarding, performance evaluations, terminations and other functions related to NIFS policies in our Employee Handbook.
- Communicates frequently with President and with other directors to ensure efficient operations and member experiences
- Monitors and generates reports from membership software for member engagement in programs and services as well as develops and monitors a strategy for membership sales. Monitors membership goals and effectiveness of campaigns.
- Supports collaborative efforts with NIFS partners and the community
- Maintains familiarity with and abides by the policies stated in the NIFS Employee Handbook
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a health-related field from four-year college/university; Master’s degree preferred
- Other work experience in a fitness setting required
- Three to five years of increasingly challenging experience in the field preferred; staff management experience required
- Ability to accurately speak to and demonstrate ACSM guidelines for exercise prescriptions and fitness testing
- Computer Skills
- Knowledge of web browsers or other platforms for responsible use of the internet as a resource
- Knowledge of and demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point.
- Knowledge of ABC Gym Management software or similar platforms
- Once trained, the employee should be capable of accurately using NIFS payroll system
- Certifications
- ACSM Certified Exercise Phyisologist preferred
- Other industry-related certifications (CPT, CSCS, etc) acknowledged
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification required
- Trained in Universal Precautions annually (provided by NIFS)
