GLC On The Go is seeking Registered Dietitians for Full Time long term contracts at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) located in Bethesda.
NIH is the world's largest biomedical research facility operated by the Federal Government. The position operates under the Nutrition department within the 200 bed clinical center.
Schedule : Monday-Friday, day shift, between the hours of 6 : 00am and 5 : 30pm for 8 hours per day with a 30 minute unpaid lunch- some weekend and holiday shifts may be required.
Job Description :
Metabolic Clinical Research Activities :
Review research food records and questionnaires with patients
Codes research food records and questionnaires
Reviews research food records and questionnaires coded by other staff for accuracy and completeness
Conducts body composition assessments, including utilizing skinfold calipers, tape measures, and bioelectrical impedance
Creates research menus for subjects based on protocol requirements
Checks patient research menus and ensure patient compliance
Ensures research participant compliance with research diets
Coordinates research meal food services with Metabolic Quality Assurance Dietitian and Metabolic Cooks
Monitors subject appointment and nutrition research calendars
Responds to nursing and research team inquiries regarding food service / research meal subject issues
Responds to investigator queries related to subject scheduling, compliance, data, protocol planning
Review manuscripts as requested by timeline provided by primary author
Plans nutrition research services and procedures related to future protocols. This includes : Menu design per protocol - Creation of spreadsheets needed for energy or nutrient calculations and other relevant tracking - Creation of educational and assessment materials for screening, patient education, diet assessment, anthropometric measures - Creation of protocol procedures for nutrition staf f- Performs quality assurance reviews / audits for nutrition research
Downloads, organizes and provides data for protocol teams as request to include : Food array data, dietary recall data, food intake data, standardized nutrient data
Attends nutrition and protocol team meetings as assigned
Documents nutrition research services in the electronic health record (Clinical Research Information System). Requirements :
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSE, OR OTHER EXPERIENCE / EXPERTISE REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university in Dietetics / Nutrition or related field.
Successful completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice experience, approved or accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Dietetic Education of the American Dietetic Association (prior to 12 / 31 / 2011) or (as of 1 / 1 / 12) the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), the accrediting agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Eligible to sit for the Dietetic Registration Examination for Dietitians from the Commission on Dietetic Registration
Minimum of 6 months experience in clinical nutrition research
Professional knowledge of the science of nutrition and principles and procedures required to provide medical nutrition therapy / nutrition care process to patients
Knowledge of medical practices, the effects of medication, and the effects of other treatment modalities as they impact the patient's diet, ability to eat, nutritional status, and provision of nutrition support
Skill in assessing dietary habits and nutritional status and the ability to apply this information to the diet prescription and to develop a dietary plan to meet the requirements of a given protocol or disease state
Ability to instruct a patient / patient family members or provide group counseling about diet and demonstrated skill in influencing patient compliance
Must have strong clinical inpatient experience.
