The National Institutes of Health Clinical Center Pharmacy is seeking exceptionally talented, knowledgeable, and motivated Pharmacy Technicians. This announcement is being advertised to fill pharmacy technician vacancies within the Clinical Center Pharmacy Department's Quality Assurance Section. Duties

As a Pharmacy Technician (Quality Assurance) GS-0661-07, your duties will include but are not limited to the following :

  • Maintaining the calibrations of pharmaceutical sampling equipment and supplies.
  • Conducting aseptic processing and other competency assessments of staff for the access of sterile and non-sterile compounding spaces.
  • Participating in audits of various pharmaceutical department areas.
  • Maintaining and coordinating calibration / certification / qualification of equipment and facilities.
  • Participating in internal event investigations and corrective / preventative actions.
  • Maintaining QA documentation archives.
  • Reviewing compounding records for completion and regulatory compliance.
  • Facilitating clean room related maintenance and certification services by escorting the service providers to ensure adherence to the compliance policy and procedures applicable to the controlled spaces.
  • Providing guidance to senior and junior staff on document control and the documentation of deviations and change orders.

  • Work requires physical activity that includes lifting and carrying large, heavy boxes (i.e., 25 pounds) and sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time.
  • The work may occasionally require stooping or kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor or to remove and replace items on lower shelves) and / or reaching above shoulders (e.g., to remove or replace items on upper shelves).
  • The work also requires specific physical characteristics to include dexterity to perform fine precise work, delicate adjustments, and exact measurements associated with delicate machines and specialized drugs.
  • The work is performed in a clinical environment.
  • Work involves moderate risks and discomforts associated with, for example, exposure to chemical solutions, potentially infectious tissue specimens, toxic agents, or irritant chemicals.
  • The work also includes the handling of material classified as Hazardous Drugs.
  • Special safety precautions and protective gear and clothing may be required in the clinical areas.
  • A one-year trial / probationary period may be required upon selection / placement.
  • If selected, you must pass a pre-employment medical examination, provide evidence of immunization, and be free from communicable diseases.
  • This position requires rotational shifts.
  • Qualifications

    You qualify at the GS-07 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements :

    A. I qualify for this position at the GS-07 level because I have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks : Monitoring pharmaceutical processes including the review and validation of sterile compounding preparations and various automated medication dispensing practices; conducting medication inventory and maintaining inventory records; assisting with audits of Pharmaceutical Standard Operating Procedures to ensure compliance; and implementing quality control measures that work to reduce medication errors.

    B. I qualify for this position at the GS-07 level because I have completed one full year of graduate education, or an internship, in Pharmacy related education. One year of full-time graduate education is the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study, or 18 semester hours.

    C . I qualify for this position at the GS-07 level because I have a combination of graduate level education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
