National Journal is hiring a Membership Marketing Manager, responsible for constructing and executing outbound campaign initiatives to engage the market, acquire new members, and drive service utilization.

What is National Journal’s marketing and events team? 

You will be part of a high-energy team that includes digital marketers, events professionals, and graphic designers, who focus on promoting NJ’s products and services while serving and delivering value to government affairs organizations.  We concept, develop, coordinate, and execute digital marketing campaigns that engage, educate, and generate interest in the products produced by National Journal. We work closely with revenue partners to capitalize on that interest to bring on new members and retain existing ones.

You enjoy working in an entrepreneurial environment and are always willing to roll up your sleeves to contribute to organizational needs. You are a strong marketing writer with an eye for detail and a passion for targeting. You enjoy identifying insights from data and applying lessons learned to increase campaign engagement. 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience developing multi-channel, integrated marketing campaigns and tracking performance against KPIs.

  • Experience in website management, SEM, and SEO is desirable.

  • Strong writing skills.

  • An ability to work closely with various internal stakeholders and in collaboration with peers on the marketing team. 

  • Experience analyzing campaign analytics from marketing automation tools and CRM programs such as Marketo, Google Analytics, and Salesforce.com.

  • Familiarity with marketing to the public policy or government affairs audience is a plus.

  • Familiarity with Marketo and HTML is a plus.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Campaign Development and Execution

  • Execute high-impact lead generation and retention campaigns by collaborating with stakeholders to identify market-resonant themes, new opportunities, and areas for growth.

  • Manage the day-to-day implementation of integrated, multi-channel marketing campaigns across email, web/digital, and social.

  • Build and manage distribution lists for targeted email campaigns to clients and prospects, including consideration of subscription management preferences, list segmentation, and trigger campaign management.

  • Write and edit compelling copy for email and web promotions, as well as sales enablement collateral and tools.

  • Coordinate A/B testing of email features to continually improve engagement.

  • Employ email best practices for send times, subject lines, list segmentation, format, and deliverability.

  • Develop nurture strategies that build relationships with new-to-world leads and chart out opportunities to impart membership value.

  • Marketing Operations and Data Analytics

    • Become fluent in our marketing automation system (Marketo) and familiar with our CRM (Salesforce) to manage execution, troubleshoot issues, and advise on possibilities available through the software.

    • Help manage a lead scoring model and recommend improvements

    • Analyze, benchmark, and report on marketing campaigns and initiatives from launch through sales conversion.

    • Provide quarterly reporting that details lead volume and end-to-end funnel activity through to conversion.

  • Project Management

    • Proven ability to move projects along and meet deadlines.

    • Experience creating and managing internal processes and timelines.

    • Comfortable working across teams with stakeholders at varying levels of seniority.

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate: 

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • 3-5 years of experience in digital or content marketing, lead generation, or growth strategy, preferably in a B2B environment.

  • Experience working in marketing automation software, Marketo preferred, and with CRMs, such as Salesforce.

  • An analytical, data-driven mindset, with the ability to derive actionable insights from data (A/B testing, analyzing email deliverability/open/click metrics, using Google Analytics).

  • Knowledge of best practices for reaching audiences through digital media channels (e.g. how to improve deliverability, how to best personalize email content, email template design, creating strong calls-to-action, writing compelling subject lines, etc.).

  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.

  • Strong project management skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Employment Type: Full-time

Compensation: The salary range for this role is $60,000-$70,000

Location: This job is based in Washington, DC. National Journal operates on a hybrid schedule, with employees required to be in the office every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Salary : $60,000 - $70,000
