What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kennel Attendant position at National K-9 Learning Center?
Job Summary: Kennel attendants provide daily care to boarded dogs and assist with facility maintenance. They are involved with cleaning cages/kennel runs, bathing, grooming, exercising, feeding, and administering medication. They also are responsible for monitoring the behavior of boarded dogs and record keeping. Kennel attendants work under the direct supervision of the kennel manager or other facility supervisors. This position may allow individuals to advance to become a professional dog trainer.
This position must be able to work a 4-day work week that includes the following:
- Four daily - 10-hour work shifts of 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM (with one-hour unpaid meal period and two breaks)
- Must be available to work a Saturday or Sunday shift of 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM (with one-hour unpaid meal period and two breaks)
- Must be available to work some holidays throughout the year at holiday pay rate (double-time).

Salary and benefits
- Starting hourly wage based on previous experience and skills;
- Current starting pay rate is $13.50 to $15.00 an hour for new hires with no related previous experience.
- Starting pay may be more for candidates with previous related experience ($15.00 to $18.00).
- Hourly rate will be increased after training period.

Duties and Daily tasks include the following:
- Help maintain a clean and organized facility;
- Maintains a clean and sanitary environment for boarded dogs;
- Cleaning kennels, cages and runs daily;
- Cleaning and maintenance of facility;
- Clean and maintain facility equipment;
- Assist with maintenance of facility property;
- Follow proper safety measures and procedures when using chemicals and cleaning supplies;
- Administering medication to boarding dogs following approved protocols;
- Provide each animal with food and water following approved protocols;
- Wash dog chew toys, food and water bowls and put them away in an orderly fashion;
- Washing, drying, folding and proper storage of laundry;
- Walking and exercising dogs following approved protocols;
- Bathing and grooming dogs following approved protocols;
- Baths that include shampoo and conditioner;
- Drying and brushing/combing;
- Nail clipping, teeth brushing and ear cleaning;
- Scheduling and making kennels assignments for boarding dogs;
- Record keeping and monitoring the behavior of boarded dogs;
- Proper inventory of boarded dogs’ personal items;
- Assist clients, other employees, and others in a positive and respectful manner as a representative of the National K-9 Learning Center;
- Interact with clients as they pick up and drop off their dogs;
- Assist with the check-in and check-out of new dogs and inspection;
- Provide updates to clients regarding their dog’s boarding stay;
- Assist with training activities or behavior modification under the supervision of National K-9 staff trainer;
- Inform supervisor of any health or behavior issues with boarded dogs;
- Other general duties as assigned.
Job Skills/Qualifications
- 18 years of age or older.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Punctual, reliable, and responsible.
- Able to complete on the job training.
- Enjoy interacting and working with various breeds and sizes of dogs.
- Able to physically handle large dogs (up to 150 lbs. or more)
- Able to interact and handle dogs under various circumstances.
- Patience with dogs and people.
- Able to work well with other employees and clients.
- Positive teamwork mentality.
- Possess problem-solving skills.
- Able to read, write, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Able to stand for long periods of time.
- Able to lift and carry 50 lbs. (dogs, bags and boxes).
- Able to bend and squat regularly
- Basic computer knowledge and typing.
