Position Description
Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks a full-time Client Navigator for its Kinship Care Project. The Kinship Care Project assists relative and nonrelative caregivers in stabilizing the legal relationship between the caregiver and the child through guardianship, custody and adoption proceedings, and in maximizing the resources available to the household. The Kinship Care Project is located in Downtown Atlanta, and the staff currently consists of a Managing Attorney, three Staff Attorneys, a Screening Attorney, and two Paralegals.
As a Client Navigator, you are considered a part of our legal team, as such, you are held to the same standards of confidentiality as an attorney or other non-attorney team member. Due to the professional responsibilities of licensed attorneys in Georgia, we are unable to employ mandated reporters. The Client Navigator will assess the non-legal needs of a client and serve as a crucial link between clients and the services they need, offering personalized guidance to provide them with a plan to improve their situation. This job will provide a unique blend of challenges and rewards. Some of the responsibilities and duties include advocating on behalf of clients and their families to obtain resources and services, whether SNAP benefits, TANF, Medicaid or other benefits. Additionally, the Client Navigator often assists clients who are in crisis mode, and need intervention services.
Responsibilities
Conduct initial assessments and interviews to understand client needs and circumstances
Develop personalized care plans and service strategies for clients
Provide clients with information about available services and resources
Assist clients in completing necessary documentation and applications
Coordinate with other service providers to ensure comprehensive care
Follow up with clients to monitor progress and address any ongoing needs
Advocate on behalf of clients to remove barriers and improve access to services
Offer emotional support and empathy to clients facing challenging situations
Provide educational resources and tools to help clients become more self-sufficient
Maintain accurate client data, including entering and scanning up-to-date case information into Legal Aid’s client database, filing, archiving and retrieving data as required
Provide clients with information and advice under the supervision of an attorney
Notarize documents
General administrative tasks
Qualifications
An undergraduate degree with a concentration in Social Work or a related field is preferred.
Previous experience in client advocacy or case management is strongly preferred
Ability to communicate effectively with families, medical personnel, social workers, and other public service organizations as needed
Familiarity with local and national policies affecting client services
Experience navigating and interacting with community resources and services
Demonstrated commitment to public service and previous work with low-income people
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
Strong work ethic and adaptability
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication, listening, and organizational skills
Ability to balance compassion and pragmatism
Exceptional people and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a collaborative, hybrid team model, with an appreciation for diversity
Eagerness to learn and openness to feedback
Proficiency in using case management software and tools, and Google Workspace
Proficiency in languages other than English, specifically Spanish, is highly valued
A current notary public or eligible and willing to apply
Salary And Benefits
The salary is $50,000, depending on work experience. Salaries are reviewed and adjusted annually, depending on funding.
