NeighborHealth seeks a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to shape the direction of the community health center as it advances a sustainable approach to value-based care. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned physician, excited to join a strong and healthy practice, and eager to guide the development of organizational infrastructure and individual team members to best serve a diverse community. The successful candidate will possess a combination of creativity, consistency, and compassion, coupled with exceptional leadership abilities, to drive a culture shift within the organization. The primary responsibility of the CMO will be to guide the clinical team in delivering the utmost level of care to all patients while working toward accomplishing the objectives established by the leadership team. This role presents an extraordinary chance to establish innovative care models and leave a lasting impact on clinical operations. As the organization’s senior physician, the Chief Medical Officer plays a critical role in communicating and building strong relationships with all constituents. The successful CMO will have a track record of exemplary clinical practice and administrative leadership with an ambitious vision to better meet the needs of the diverse NeighborHealth community.

The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for ensuring the quality and effectiveness of clinical care throughout the health center. The CMO also serves as an advisor to the CEO on clinical quality and safety. Key responsibilities for the CMO include (1) the development and implementation of strategic priorities related to clinical practice redesign, growth, operational integrity, and financial strength and (2) the development and implementation of programs that improve clinical quality and patient safety.

NeighborHealth (formerly East Boston Neighborhood Health Center) is Massachusetts’ largest community-based primary care health system, one of the largest Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation. NeighborHealth serves over 120k people annually – the health center works with communities in Greater Boston to deliver a great healthcare experience that is compassionate, person-centric, culturally relevant, and accessible to all.

Education & Experience

  • MD or DO Degree, ABMS board certification
  • Eligibility for licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in medical practice with 5 years of demonstrated leadership
  • Experience in the use of data and metrics in clinical and leadership decision-making
  • Track record in budgeting and health center finance in relation to value-based contracting and healthcare policy
  • Knowledge of policies, regulations and procedures necessary to administer patient care
  • Familiarity with Federally Qualified Health Care organizations and operations
  • Experience working with populations which are socioeconomically disadvantaged and or / multi-ethnic

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all physicians, advanced practice providers, staff, and patients
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership through punctuality, attendance, self-motivation and self-direction
  • Understanding of change management and ability to lead others through change
  • Ability to delegate, set expectations and monitor execution of expectations
  • A leader who engenders trust and operates with the highest integrity
  • Demonstrated community orientation with a track record of collaboration and team-focused culture
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • A proven strategic leader, with a collaborative approach, who enjoys the field and is focused on creating impact with sustainable outcomes for all the communities and constituents that are a part of the NeighborHealth ecosystem
  • COMPENSATION

    This is a full-time position that will be performed on site in the state of Massachusetts. Compensation is competitive with national benchmarks and commensurate with the experience, achievement, and responsibilities of this position.
