Position Summary : The Operation Purple Data and Storytelling Intern is a part-time temporary member of the Military Family Programs team (15-20 hours / week for approximately 13 weeks duration). The Data and Storytelling Intern is responsible for data and survey collection and analysis across NMFA’s Operation Purple Camp and Summer Challenge programs. The successful candidate must be over 18 at the start of the contract.

Dates of Contract : May 27 – August 22, approximately 13 weeks

Estimated Hours / Week : 15-20 hrs / wk

Estimated Hourly Pay : Up to $20 / hr

Requirements :

  • Must be age 18 at the start of the contract.
  • Must be able to complete a standard background check.
  • Available for 2-3 hours of meetings between 8am and 4pm EST.
  • Data analysis experience at a postsecondary and / or professional level.
  • Accessible to NMFA’s headquarters in Alexandria, VA for up to twice weekly onsite work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Adept and / or quick to develop necessary skills for utilizing NMFA’s data software and platforms :
  • Microsoft Excel and SharePoint, SurveyMonkey, UltraCamp, photo tools, and more.

  • 2 years of college and / or comparable experience.
  • Experience with the military family community.
  • Responsibilities :

    Data, Asset and Survey Collection

  • Complete training on SurveyMonkey, UltraCamp, photo tools, spreadsheet functions, and role outcomes / deliverables.
  • Work with NMFA staff at Operation Purple Camp (“Purple Person”) for each session to collect photos, campers invited and attended list, parent contacts, camper post-surveys, parent post-surveys, family testimonials
  • Communicate with families via email, SurveyMonkey and UltraCamp to gather post-camp parent surveys and testimonials
  • Manage post-survey incentive raffle and communicate with winners
  • Support Summer Challenge team with incoming data tracking and asset management (photos, feedback, etc.)Data Analysis; Asset Creation, Curation and Sharing
  • Meet regularly with program director and other NMFA staff to share findings, follow up on flagged responses, adjust workflow, and track expected outcomes.
  • Curate “best of” photos and quotes to share with NMFA teams and camp teams for social sharing, program reports, and program marketing.
  • Analyze selected data from camp applicants and attendees as well as post-survey data from campers and parents for each camp and overall.
  • Prepare selected data to be shared with internal staff, camp partners, funders and more.
  • Pass along selected data to NMFA’s designated marketing, development and strategy staff.
  • Handoff remaining tasks at internship end to MFP team with clearly outlined next steps to reach intended data gathering goals and outcomes.
  • Additional Responsibilities where relevant

  • Collect paper surveys from NMFA headquarters in Alexandria, complete and / or supervise data entry
  • Support program staff for Operation Purple Camp and Summer Challenge with office administration, including supply tracking, sorting, shipping and receiving.
  • Other duties assigned within designated working hours.
