Dog Care Technicians operate under the supervision of the Dog Care Supervisors, to maintain the daily cleanliness of the facility, including indoor and outdoor kennels, all rooms, and play yards. Technicians will provide an environment of sensory enrichment and quality socialization.
Key Responsibilities and Duties – Cleaning and dog care, feeding and socialization/enrichment.
Facility Cleaning Duties
- Follow facility protocols to clean and maintain indoor and outdoor kennel areas in such a manner as to provide an odor free and low stress environment.
- Adhere to facility protocols to provide proper amount of food, fresh water and bedding.
- Follow appropriate protocols for any observed behavioral or medical situations.
- Report any concerns or issues appropriately, using established protocols.
- Read and follow kennel signs related to the dog’s medical and or behavioral requirements.
- Handle additional tasks and assignments upon request as directed by Dog Care Supervisor and Enrichment Specialist.
Enrichment Activities
At the direction of the enrichment specialist, provide various socialization, exercise and in kennel enrichment with our dogs:
- Walking dogs
- Participating in play groups and dog to dog socialization
- Stuffing Kongs and preparing other in-kennel enrichment tools
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in an animal centric business or non profit helpful
- Ability and confidence to safely maneuver around unfamiliar dogs
- Animals: Ability to work with animals of unknown disposition, including those who may exhibit medical issues, behavior issues, etc.
- Reliable transportation - including winter driving
- Above average attendance history
- Work and interact professionally with peers, volunteers, staff, and visitors.
Physical Requirements
- Physical ability to walk and/or stand on your feet throughout a normal workday.
- Physical ability to engage in repetitive motions of legs, arms, and hands, to hear, and to see.
- This position may require the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and the ability to bend or stand as necessary.
- Those with allergies to animals that could be aggravated when handling or working around such animals may be disqualified.
