What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physical Geography Instructor position at National Park College?
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: The Physical Geography Instructor will fill a nine-month, full-time faculty position for day, evening and online classes with an opportunity to teach during summer sessions. A full time teaching load is fifteen credit hours per fall and spring semesters, while maintaining a minimum of 10 office hours weekly for student consultation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teaching undergraduate courses in Earth Science, Physical Science, Physical Geography, and Geology.
- Lecturing in classroom and laboratory settings and developing and providing individual instruction as required.
- Developing and expanding potential course offerings in Environmental Science, Soil Sciences, and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Maintains accurate records and reports on student performance.
- Interprets policies, programs and procedures related to the delivery of services.
- Seeks, selects and uses resources that align with student/program needs.
- Implements a variety of strategies or approaches to meet the needs of students, including consulting with students, families and school staff, as necessary.
- Assesses and documents attainment of program objectives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required skills/abilities:
- Deep knowledge of Earth Science, Physical Geology, Physical Geography and/or related geosciences.
- Knowledge of educational planning, teaching techniques, and classroom management strategies.
- Knowledge of learning aids and teaching materials appropriate to the subject matter.
- Proficiency in developing and delivering assessments to gauge student learning and guide instruction.
- Ability to evaluate progress and revise lesson plans as needed.
- Ability to provide advice and guidance relative to the education of the student.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Preferred experience or knowledge in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Education and Experience:
- Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or higher in the Geosciences, Geography, or a closely related field or hold a Master’s degree and 18 graduate hours in geoscience or a related discipline.
- At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level, with preference given to community college experience is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in GIS and/or Natural Resources.
- Experience developing and teaching online courses.
- Commitment to creating a welcoming and accessible learning environment that supports individuals from all backgrounds and perspectives.
