Responsibilities MAJOR DUTIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING : Maintains current knowledge, and answers questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Passes on to other workers the instructions received from the supervisor by assigning daily tasks to individuals of the work group. Demonstrates proper work methods and works along with others to set a work pace. Ensures necessary plans, materials, supplies, equipment, and tools are available when needed. Recommends operation needs per work requests to the supervisor. Answers workers questions, or obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that arise during the process of the project. Checks work in progress and upon completion to determine / ensure supervisor's instructions are being followed and to meet deadlines. Reports progress and delays to supervisor and on overall operations and problems. Ensures safety and housekeeping rules are followed. Answers questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems. Additionally, this position performs the following non-supervisory work (in TWO or more of the eight occupations listed below) involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related fixtures and utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices. WORK SCHEDULE : You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime. MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT : Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and : (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. Non-Competitive Rehire Eligibility : Temporary seasonal employees can only maintain their non-competitive rehire eligibility if they work no more than a combined total of Temporary NTE less than 1040 hours anywhere in the National Park Service (NPS) within their established service year. Accordingly, non-competitive rehire eligibility allows for re-appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402[b][7]), based on series and grade, anywhere in the major subdivision (NPS). If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment less than 1040 hours during that period, you are still welcome to apply. However, please be aware that exceeding the limit of 1040 hours in your established service year will result in the loss of your non-competitive rehire eligibility. PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Physical effort is heavy to moderate and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions. WORKING CONDITIONS : Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90 degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment, paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks and biting insects.
