Duties
Communicates with and educates internal and external audiences about fire management and NPS fire policy. Develops outreach strategies to communicate complex issues to the public and media.
Collaborates with park and community stakeholders to educate about fire management activities and mitigation strategies.
Develops and implements fire prevention and preparedness campaigns.
Writes, edits, and produces written materials such as press releases, newsletters, and reports.
Assists in developing digital materials related to fire for National Park Service websites and social media.
Provides leadership and support for the public information officer role in NPS and interagency incident response.
Requirements
U.S. Citizenship required.
Appointment subject to background investigation.
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
Valid driver's license required.
Work may require travel by fixed-wing or rotorwing aircraft.
Uniform compliance required.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must meet the following specialized experience by close of the announcement :
Experience : At least one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-09 level in Federal service.
Education : Completion of 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree in communication, ecology, or related field.
