EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors. Specialized experience includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other artwork, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. To qualify at this grade level, your resume must reflect at least 2 out 3 of the following: 1). Using standard desktop publishing (InDesign) and graphic design (Photo Shop, Illustrator, etc.) software and techniques to design and produce page layouts of technical and non-technical communication products such as pamphlets, brochures, and newsletters, from web and print publications. 2). Producing visual materials which include publications with illustrations, maps, charts, diagrams, graphs, and covers. 3). Advising customers on cost, visual effectiveness, and appropriate media for projects.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or a Ph.D. degree in one of the following fields: commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. COMBINATION: I have an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education leading to a Ph.D. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work and with major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. NOTE, only graduate education beyond first 2 years of graduate study or Master's level are qualifying when combining.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Field visits are necessary for onsite inspection of phases of the production of a visual product. The incumbent occasionally must lift moderately heavy objects and operates hand tools and power tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, levels, rivet guns, saws, drills, etc.
Working Conditions: Work is normally performed in a typical office setting, however, when work is performed outside the office, it may be in field environments or at dirty, dusty, cold, hot, wet or some otherwise uncomfortable locations indoors and outdoors, where the exhibit or display is located. Work involves moderate risks or discomforts such as working with power tools.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.

- Responsible for independently performing a wide variety of visual production duties in support of the park unit and partners
- Independently develop original designs, concepts, or visual styles for publications, web content, or presentations using appropriate visual materials, techniques, or emerging media for the intended audience.
- In collaboration with regional web, media, and communications staff, maintains and develops web pages (intranet/internet) and web content, and uses data and analytics to gather trends and audience needs.
- Applies knowledge of a subject matter pr program to provide interpretive support, knowledge of their audience, and design to support universal design and high-quality products.
