Job Summary
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, MFT, provides direct behavioral health services to
patients admitted to National Psychiatric Care and Rehabilitation services and is responsible for-
treating, counseling and educating clients based upon their individualized emotional and
psychological needs.


General Accountabilities
• Under the direction of the Program Director, Lead Therapist and/or a qualified licensed
practitioner, Therapist will evaluate potential clients to assess whether they will fit program
criteria for admission. Provides therapy for facility residents and their families.
• Works in conjunction with other staff to meet individual and family needs.
• Secures and documents informed consent from all participants.
• Develops and documents goals for each resident and documents all progress made toward
completion of goals.
• Document information concerning family therapy sessions, phone calls, e-mail, voicemail, etc. as
appropriate, explaining all contact as necessary.
• Complete a case closure summary when services are terminated, including information on
documented hours of service, identified problems, resident progress, and recommendations
regarding further treatment.
• Makes community referrals as appropriate, and works with other staff to facilitate any
necessary follow-up regarding resident needs.
• Identifies and responds to changes in policies, regulations, and procedures which can impact the
patient.
• Assesses diagnoses and treats adult mental health patients by incorporating individual, couple,
family and group therapy skills.
• Participates in case staffing and staff meetings as requested.

• Abides by the AAMFT Code of Ethics. (Consider changing to CAMFT Code of Ethics-more
relevant for CA)
• Understands and applies all National Psychiatric Care and Rehabilitation Services Policies and
Procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Qualifications
• Licenses and Certifications: Valid California Marriage and Family Therapist Intern Registration
• Minimum Education: Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Sociology or Behavioral Science.
• Minimum Experience: One (1) year experience working in a mental health setting or social
service agency providing services to mentally ill consumers.
• Meets all health and background investigation regulations required by California Title 22.

• Thorough knowledge of psychosocial diagnostic categories and treatment approaches including
evidence-based treatment modalities, suicide assessment, and therapeutic crisis intervention.
• Strong interpersonal communication and problem solving skills.
• Rapidly establish rapport with a diverse population of patients presenting with a wide range of psychiatric, social and emotional difficulties.
• Process and communicate in a manner that is sensitive and appropriate to the cultural, linguistic
and psychological needs of patients, families and other healthcare team members.
• Function effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team and to collaborate well with other disciplines
• Remain calm and use appropriate skills to defuse potentially violent or aggressive situations
• Maintaining concentration and staying task-focused, despite frequent interruptions, noise and distractions.
Ability to prioritize and manage immediate competing demands in highly stimulating work environment.
