Job Description
NREL's Hydrogen Systems Analysis team focuses on activities that provide direction, insight, and support for the development, demonstration, and deployment of a broad range of hydrogen technologies. Analysis focuses on hydrogen production, storage, and delivery systems for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) as well as stationary fuel cells and emerging-market applications such as material handling and backup power. Job Duties
This position will directly support the HyBlend TEA Team in further developing a recently published software, BlendPATH. BlendPATH is a Python-based open-source software that helps quantify the opportunities and costs of blending hydrogen into high pressure natural gas transmission pipelines. The team needs an intern to support further development of this tool which would include but is not limited to the following job duties:
Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Candidates who have earned a degree may work for a period not to exceed 12 months. Must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)
Job Profile: / Annual Salary Range: $50,200 - $80,300

Job Duties

- Add additional functionality to the current software as needed or support with debugging and documentation.
- Conduct literature review on plastic pipe design standards and document these to support code development.
- Use these findings to extend capabilities in BlendPATH to accommodate TEA modelling of plastic pipes and low-pressure distribution gas systems.
- Create and deliver presentations on findings or proposals for improvement
- Identify and integrate public data into case study testing for BlendPATH

- The successful candidate will have completed an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, economics or related field
- In addition, the candidate will either be enrolled in or recently graduated from a master’s program, or enrolled in a PhD program in engineering, economics, or related field
- Required background and experience in research or analysis.
- Demonstrated experience with Python
- Demonstrated knowledge or experience in techno-economic analysis and in engineering principles including pipeline hydraulics and gas thermodynamics
- Past project or internships in hydrogen systems or pipeline networks
- Demonstrated knowledge or experience in object-oriented programming with Python
- Demonstrated knowledge or experience in QGis
- Knowledge or experience using NREL tools such as H2FAST/H2A or ProFAST
