The National Rural Water Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to training, supporting, and promoting the water and wastewater professionals that serve small and rural communities across the country. NRWA provides training and technical assistance through 50 affiliated State Rural Water Associations that currently have over 31,000 utility system members. Rural Water training and technical assistance covers every aspect of operating, managing, and financing water and wastewater utilities.
The IT Director is a leadership role within NRWA, overseeing all aspects of NRWA’s technology strategy, infrastructure, and operations. The IT Director will lead the development and enforcement of IT policies, manage cybersecurity posture, streamline data and reporting processes, and ensure that technology supports and enhances NRWA’s mission. The role demands a forward-thinking leader with a strong technical foundation and a proven track record in IT management. The IT Director position is full-time exempt.
Responsibilities and Duties
Strategic Leadership & Management
- Lead the planning, development, and execution of NRWA’s IT strategy aligned with organizational goals.
- Manage and mentor a team of IT professionals and contractors.
- Develop and maintain IT budgets and ensure cost-effective use of resources.
- Serve as a key advisor to senior leadership on technology trends and opportunities.
Cybersecurity & Risk Management
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of cybersecurity policies, procedures, and tools.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and lead incident response planning and execution.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, best practices, and relevant regulations.
Data & Reporting
- Expand and solidify the data governance framework being put in place.
- Design and optimize systems for data collection, analysis, and reporting across departments.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop dashboards and metrics that drive decision-making.
Systems & Infrastructure
- Oversee management of IT infrastructure including networks, servers, cloud services, and business applications.
- Lead implementation of new platforms, upgrades, and system integrations.
- Ensure high availability, performance, and security of IT systems.
Process Improvement & Governance
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize IT processes and service delivery.
- Develop and enforce standardized operating procedures, documentation, and change management protocols.
- Champion a culture of IT governance and accountability.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- Minimum 15 years of progressive IT experience.
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership or management role.
- Demonstrated expertise in cybersecurity, infrastructure, enterprise systems, and data management.
- Proven experience designing and implementing IT processes and controls.
Preferred:
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, PMP, ITIL, etc.).
- Power BI Development experience
