Job Title: Stage Equipment Installer (Including Black Box Theaters & Stage Curtains)
Job Summary:
A Stage Equipment Installer is responsible for the setup, installation, and maintenance of stage equipment in auditoriums, black box theaters, and other performance spaces. This includes lighting, rigging, stage curtains, and stage platforms to support productions, events, and performances. The role also involves working closely with general contractors, venue managers, and production teams to ensure proper installation and integration of stage systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and configure stage lighting, rigging, stage curtains, and projection equipment in various performance venues.
- Set up and maintain flexible stage configurations unique to black box theaters, including movable seating, lighting grids, and modular staging.
- Assemble and secure stage platforms, backdrops, curtains, and rigging systems according to production and event needs.
- Install and maintain stage curtains, including main drapes, legs, borders, cycloramas, and scrims, ensuring proper operation and safety.
- Work with general contractors to coordinate stage equipment installation in new or renovated venues, ensuring compliance with construction plans and safety standards.
- Collaborate with directors, production managers, and event coordinators to accommodate different stage layouts and technical requirements.
- Test and troubleshoot stage equipment to ensure proper functionality before productions and events.
- Follow safety regulations to ensure all equipment, rigging, and curtains are securely installed and properly maintained.
- Perform routine inspections and minor repairs on stage equipment, lighting fixtures, rigging, and curtains.
- Operate lifts, scaffolding, and rigging systems as needed for installations.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience in stage production, technical theater, or equipment installation.
- Knowledge of lighting, rigging, and stage curtain mechanics.
- Ability to read and interpret setup diagrams, technical manuals, blueprints, and lighting plots.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, work at heights, and handle large fabric materials.
- Familiarity with safety protocols, fire codes, and industry standards for stage curtains, rigging, and construction sites.
- Experience working with general contractors, architects, and construction teams on venue installations.
- Certification in rigging, electrical work, or stagecraft is a plus.
Work Environment:
- Requires working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Involves physically demanding tasks such as lifting, climbing, and handling heavy drapes.
- Black box theaters may require frequent reconfiguration of staging, seating layouts, and curtain placements.
- May work on active construction sites when installing stage equipment in new or renovated venues.
- Travel and overnight travel is required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 50 per week
