Medical Director Job Description
Job Title: Medical Director
Reports to: Camp Director
About the Role:
The Medical Director is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of all campers and staff during the summer season. This role requires a strong desire to work with children and young adults, as well as experience in first aid and emergency management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the health and safety of all campers and staff
- Provide healthcare to meet individual needs of campers and staff
- Collaborate with other medical staff to meet medical needs
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to state and American Camp Association Standards
- Ensure staff orientation on medical services, including standing orders and health center procedures
- Screen all campers and staff upon arrival and departure
- Verify emergency authorization forms
- Keep track of medications used by campers and staff
- Report any health problems or symptoms of illness to the Camp Director
Requirements:
- CPR and current first aid certification
- Experience in first aid and emergency management
- Documented experience in both children and adult illness/injury care
- Ability to drive to off-campus health providers, physicians, or emergency treatment locations
- Vast knowledge of outside health resources
- Ability to lift/assist campers and staff
- Ability to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders, and parent letters
- Ability to use a telephone
