Every professional sports team plays an important role in the civic fabric of its community. The Washington Nationals are committed to leveraging its highly visible brand to galvanize community engagement that delivers impact greater than the sum of its individual parts.

 

Nationals Philanthropies is the official charitable arm of the Washington Nationals. Its mission is to help children, families, and communities thrive through sport-based youth development and access to healthy food. The

organization delivers on this commitment by spurring investment in community-based programs that address the disparity of opportunity for residents of the region.

 

Since 2007, the foundation has issued over $6.8 million in grants to local organizations. Through its signature program, the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, the organization operates year-round youth development and baseball instruction activities, as well as a holistic food access program – supporting the delivery of nearly 1 million meals into the Washington, DC region since 2018. Since 2013, the organization has invested $50 million for facility construction and annual programming through the Academy.


Key Responsibilities:

Management of Academy Facility as Best in Class Community Hub

  • Oversees facility use, maintaining balance between programmatic calendar and external partners
  • Supervises management of RecTimes, the Academy’s facility scheduling software
  • Manages the Academy operations staff schedules, establishing Manager on Duty cadence, and communicates accordingly to external parties
  • Manages contracts with operational and maintenance vendors

 

Maintenance of Facility and Grounds

  • Plans, organizes and executes proper maintenance of all electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and fire/life equipment and systems, as well as maintenance of the facilities finishes
  • Working with Sr. Director of Civic Engagement & Operations and contractors, obtains cost estimates for supplies, parts and equipment repair; orders supplies and maintains inventory of parts
  • Ensures that preventive maintenance procedures are carried out on a scheduled basis and completes maintenance records for all equipment
  • Recommends replacement of equipment whenever necessary and evaluates new equipment for its durability and value
  • Maintains records of completed maintenance and repair work
  • Per pre-determined standards and warranty provisions, maintains synthetic turf playing surfaces and clay mounds
  • Maintains dugout and bullpen spaces
  • Inspects field fencing, screening and netting and ensures repair of any damaged areas
  • Ensures functionality of electronic systems on fields, including scoreboards and press box
  • Oversees and executes, when necessary, maintenance of landscaping and grounds
  • Coordinates and executes, when necessary, custodial responsibilities, ie. cleaning, trash removal, recycling, and ordering building supplies
  • Maintains maintenance and storage areas and keeps in exquisite working condition
  • Attends regular meetings with Sr. Director of Civic Engagement & Operations and other key staff to prioritize maintenance needs 

 

Facility Safety and Emergency Preparedness

  • Ensures compliance with environmental procedures, eg. snow removal, de-icing, and maintenance of drainage systems
  • Works to enhance all emergency preparedness, safety, and security procedures
  • Oversees the execution of quarterly emergency drills for Academy staff and emergency procedures trainings
  • Manage access control systems, including fobs, keys, and electronic systems (i.e. Data Watch)
  • Ensure all security cameras and alarms are functioning to ensure the safety of the facility

 

Requirements:

  • Associates Degree in construction or facilities management
  • Facilities maintenance experience (5 years) involving the maintenance and repair of buildings
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved with the maintenance, repair, and operation of buildings, grounds, and operating systems
  • Contributes to a motivating, rewarding, and productive work culture that promotes continuous learning
  • Ability to effectively interact with staff, tenants, department heads and officials, the public, and contract services providers
  • Ability to relate plans and specifications to actual field conditions
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Responsible, organized and detail-oriented
  • Passion for youth development, sports and community building
  • Must pass criminal background check

Physical/Environmental Requirements

Work requires sufficient physical strength, agility, endurance, dexterity and hand-eye-foot coordination to perform all essential duties. Work requires standing for long periods of time, walking, and kneeling, crawling, bending, climbing stairs and ladders. Work may expose employee to potential severe weather, potential chemical hazards; potential biological hazards; and potential physical hazards. Work requires the use of safety clothing and equipment, and compliance with safety rules and procedures, as needed. May be called after regular working hours to respond to emergency maintenance and repair needs. 

 

Compensation:

The projected annual salary range for this position is $68,900- $75,000 per year. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.

Salary : $68,900 - $75,000
