Job Description
Essential Functions:
- Serves as a member of the hospital executive team, reporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Provides administrative leadership to the Board Quality Committee. Contributes to the development of educational programs, oversees quality and safety outcome measures, and collaborates in administering functions pertaining to quality, professional practice evaluation, peer review processes, and hospital policies.
- Strengthens and reinforces a culture of quality and safety that values, promotes, and expects diversity, equity, and inclusion. Works to ensure a coordinated, system-based, and consistent approach to care and supporting clinical processes that integrate quality, safety, patient experience, and clinical effectiveness. Promotes the standardization of evidence-based treatment strategies through development and adherence to clinical pathways.
- Participates in quality improvement collaboratives to achieve improvements in patient care processes and directs innovative ideas to redefine, measure and improve quality. Creates an environment that fosters innovation and performance, supporting the implementation of programs that continuously advance clinical outcomes, patient experience, and satisfaction. Tracks, reports, and improves performance in hospital acquired conditions (HAC’s) and serious safety events (SSE’s).
- Collaborates to develop and implement strategies, plans, and processes to ensure best patient outcomes and national ranking. Leads innovation, strategy development, new initiatives, national collaborations, and performance improvement. Provides instruction, mentoring, continuous feedback, performance management, and development opportunities.
- Oversees ongoing operations, projects, and activities of the Center for Clinical Excellence (CCE). Serves as the primary administrative representative for the Children’s Hospital Practicing Pediatricians (CPP). Oversees Simulation, Antibiotic Stewardship, and the Infection Prevention and Control programs.
- Collaborates to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and guide relevant preparatory and survey activity. Maintains knowledge of and complies with federal healthcare program regulations, accreditation requirements, licensure, and other regulatory requirements, and assures compliance.
- Oversees quality data analytics, understands trends, utilizes predictive analytics, and directs the monitoring, reporting and active discussion of clinical outcomes among identified quality issue locations.
- Reviews and provides input on finances, reviewing and approving recommendations and resource plans, and presents solutions for integration into overall enterprise financial and strategic planning.
- Supports population health-based initiatives to improve health outcomes for children locally and across Ohio. Promotes the advancement of academic study, publication, and grant attainment focused on health outcomes and equity. Facilitates collaboration and coordination of ongoing population health initiatives.
- MD, DO, or equivalent degree, required.
- Post-graduate pediatric, pediatric surgical or pediatric subspecialty training, highly preferred. Ideally, the Chief Quality Officer will remain an active member of the medical staff, providing direct patient care at least 10% of the time.
- Education in business or health administration, preferred.
License-eligibility as a physician in the state of Ohio, required.
Certifications
Appropriate Board certification, required.

- 10 years of medical leadership experience, to include five years in an executive or significant quality, safety, patient experience and/or performance improvement leadership role, required.
- 10 years in a complex, matrixed, and tertiary/quaternary healthcare environment, required.
- Experience interacting with Boards and Quality Committees, required.
- Experience with clinical metrics, data analytics, clinical informatics, and information technology, required.
- Experience with performance improvement methodologies, required.
- Experience embedding health equity in quality and safety initiatives and measuring clinical outcomes, required.
- Experience across the continuum (inpatient, outpatient, and virtual care), preferred.
- Academic medical center experience, with a strong appreciation for the tripartite mission, highly preferred.
- Pediatric hospital experience, preferred.
