What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral Scientist - Lung Biology/RNA Sequencing position at Nationwide Children's Hospital?
Dr. Yan Hu Lab
A postdoctoral research position is immediately available in the Center for Perinatal Research at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in the lab of Dr. Yan Hu.
About the Lab:
The Hu Lab focuses on dissecting the molecular mechanisms driving small airway and alveolar repair. Our overarching goal is to uncover pathways that regulate lung epithelial progenitor cell function in health and disease, with the ultimate aim of developing novel therapies to promote lung tissue regeneration in chronic lung conditions such as COPD, BPD, and more. The lab is supported by funding from the NIH/NHLBI and the Abigail Wexner Research Institute.
We use advanced approaches, including single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, transgenic animal models, patient-derived lung organoids, and ex vivo precision-cut lung slices. We collaborate extensively with researchers at The Ohio State University and other institutions across the United States.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in bioinformatics and lung biology. This position offers the opportunity to receive comprehensive training in molecular and cell biology techniques, preclinical models of COPD and pediatric chronic lung diseases, and human lung sample analysis.
The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a passion for discovery, and a commitment to advancing the understanding of lung biology and disease.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze data, record findings, and help plan future research directions.
- Design and execute experiments under the guidance of the principal investigator.
- Develop and optimize protocols to conduct productive research in lung biology.
- Prepare technical materials, including abstracts, reports, manuscripts, and presentations.
- Publish scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at local and national forums.
- Train and supervise technical support staff in key research techniques.
- Collaborate with other researchers at CRI and The Ohio State University.
- Work towards research independence by preparing grant proposals for external funding.
Qualifications:
- PhD or MD in Computational Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular and Cell Biology, Genetics, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with technical skills such as:
- R, Python, single cell RNA sequencing analysis
- (Preferred) lung biology research experiences
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
Physical Requirements (Percent Time Allocation):
- 50% Performing research work
- 20% Recording and analyzing data
- 10% Preparing scientific and technical papers
- 5% Designing and developing protocols
- 3% Liaising with OSU researchers
- 2% Miscellaneous administrative tasks
About the Appointment:
The postdoctoral appointment is limited to a maximum of five years. During this period, the researcher is expected to develop independence in their research efforts and prepare for a career in academia, industry, or other scientific fields.
Salary : $60,000 - $70,000
