Location: 620 NE 2nd Street, Gresham OR 97030
Schedule: This is an in person position, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm approximately, with weekends and evenings occasionally required
Wage Range: $23.50 - $31.00 hourly, non-exempt

Position Overview:
The Tobacco Prevention and Garden Technician is a full-time position that will primarily assist in the care and maintenance of NARA NW’s healing gardens and spaces. This position will support the implementation and expansion of gardens across multiple NARA NW facilities, helping to develop smaller gardens and garden beds where needed. The technician will focus on land management and plant care during the gardening season and help integrate these efforts into tobacco prevention education, using the garden as a key tool in outreach and programming. In the off-season, they will shift focus to assisting with tobacco prevention education events and other program initiatives. This position will also support the Tobacco Prevention Manager in overseeing the strategic plans, goals, and objectives of the program. Additionally, the technician will assist with budgeting, contracts, grant applications, proposals, and Tribal partnerships as needed.
What you will do:
- Care for and maintain NARA NW’s healing gardens and surrounding spaces, with a focus on land management and plant care.
- Assist in the development of new garden beds and smaller gardens at additional NARA NW facilities.
- Facilitate garden-based tobacco prevention groups, integrating traditional plant knowledge and tobacco education.
- During off-seasons, assist with tobacco prevention education events and campaigns.
- Collaborate on long- and short-term garden and land management plans in alignment with the tobacco prevention program’s goals.
- Assist in updating and managing NARA NW’s tobacco/nicotine policy.
- Create social media messaging centered on commercial tobacco cessation and the distinctions between commercial and traditional tobacco use.
- Facilitate tobacco cessation groups when appropriate.
- Assist with grant reports, contracts, and program budget management.
- Data entry and administrative support as required.
- Become a Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS).
- Participate in training and certification for Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (ASIST) and Question Persuade Refer (QPR).
- Attend Tribal prevention camps as needed.
Qualifications
We would like to hear from people that have:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience with plant care, land management, or garden maintenance is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of traditional foods, plants, medicines, and their relationship to tobacco prevention.
- Previous experience working with tobacco/nicotine prevention, cessation, or education.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends when required.
- Access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license with proof of auto insurance.
