This is union position on the Schriever Space Force Base Dining Facility. As a union employee, you will receive vacation pay, sick leave, pension, health and welfare and other union benefits.

Hourly rate: $19.92 per hour PLUS Health and Welfare benefits and an Annual Benefit Package from the Union. Night shift differential pay.

The Cashier performs a variety of tasks concerned with the preparation and serving of foods and beverages and maintaining the sanitation in the dining facility, as well as perform the duties of a cashier.

Summary/Objective

The cashier performs various tasks related to preparing and serving food and beverages and maintaining sanitation in the dining facility. Works under general supervision and follows prescribed steps after receiving initial instructions as to how to do the work. The supervisor observes work to determine whether it is performed properly. May perform some or all of the following: Perform a variety of manual tasks in the kitchen or dining area of a food activity, which involves light to moderate physical effort and is done according to established practices; handle and calculate cash and maintain cash registers. Actively participates in Food Sanitation Specialist (FSS) job duties. FSS assists with all aspects of meal preparation, food handling, and service. FSS is also responsible for restocking food and dining room items, speaking with customers, and overseeing buffet and food service stations. The Cashier will also maintain receipts, scan military badges, and keep records of transactions.

CASHIER ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Handles cash and credit card transactions with customers
  • Scans military CAC cards and read orders to determine meal entitlement
  • Issues receipts and change
  • Greets customers when they are entering or leaving establishments
  • Maintains a clean and tidy cashier area
  • Keeps reports of transactions
  • Pleasantly deals with military and civilian personnel to ensure satisfaction
  • Calculates total personnel fed, cash, and credit card transactions received during a meal period, and reconcile this with the POS system and record in military 4182

FSS ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adheres to and demonstrates NRDCI's core values, mission, code of conduct, and employee expectations in performing all aspects of this position.
  • Sets up food on serving lines and portions of food for individual servings in accordance with instructions.
  • Wipes tables and countertops. Replaces glassware, dishes, and silverware and refills condiment containers.
  • Cleans work area, utensils, and equipment; removes garbage; mops floors; cleans walls and windows.
  • Removes dirty dishes, glasses, and silverware from serving counters. Mixes washing solutions and operates dishwashing machine and/or washes dishes, glassware, pots and pans, and kitchen utensils by hand.
  • Makes coffee in urns.
  • Assists in the setup of serving lines.
  • Performs a wide variety of manual tasks in the kitchen or dining area of a food activity, which involves light to moderate physical effort and is done according to established procedures.
  • Maintains a sanitary condition for equipment and work areas, utensils, and tables.
  • Complies with all uniform requirements outlined in the employee handbook, statement of work and ServeSafe standards. Follows uniform requirements as prescribed in company rules: "Shoes shall be of sturdy safety slip resistant construction and shall cover the foot to meet sanitation and safety requirements. Open-toed shoes, sandals, or sneakers will not be worn"; shirts will be tucked into pants, aprons, and nametags worn at all times.
  • Serves food to those in the serving line, refills cold bars, salad bars, pastry cabinets, condiments, and juice dispensers, and sets up dining rooms.
  • Performs ware-washing and keeps pot and pan areas clean before, during, and after meals.
  • Follows correct techniques, tasks, and appropriate cleaning schedules.
  • Assists in unloading supplies and moving items to the appropriate storage area.
  • Communicates effectively in a professional manner with customers, coworkers, and management.
  • Maintains a proactive relationship with customers, coworkers, and management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and assists in areas where needed.
  • Participates in all required training.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically in Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Clean driving record – Must provide a three-year Motor Vehicle Report
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a criminal and government background check, drug, and alcohol test, and must maintain base pass & identification requirements
  • One (1) year working experience in a commercial dining facility with equipment and operations similar to the proposed project, preferably in a government or government contracting environment
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Able to speak, read, write, and understand English to ensure effective communication
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in retail cashier or sales
  • Basic PC knowledge and familiarity with electronic equipment (i.e., cash register, credit card machine, POS system, etc.)

Preferred Skills

  • Sufficient mathematical, reading, and language skills
  • Proficient judgment in determining the standards of sanitation, attractiveness, timeliness, courtesy, etc., met in serving and portioning of food
  • Ability to interact with a variety of individuals
  • Ability to work assigned hours (often early or late in the day) usually required in the food service industry
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and management
  • Team player
