2025-2026 Science Department Chair

Leadership / management Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Science Department, aligning with the school’s mission and educational goals. Mentor, coach and supervise Science faculty, providing guidance and support to foster professional development Support the hiring process for Science faculty members including AmeriCorp volunteers. Coordinate and conduct department meetings and professional development days Proven classroom management through active engagement and participation; restorative justice methods preferable Curriculum Development and Implementation Oversee the design, evaluation, and refinement of a rigorous and engaging Science curriculum for 5-8th grade boys Ensure integration of diverse texts and materials that reflect a range of perspectives, experience and voices Implement effective instructional strategies that meet the needs of all learners and promote quantitative skills Develop and deliver interdisciplinary instructional units in collaboration with peers from other disciplines Teaching and Learning Teach 3 sections of Science, oversee AmeriCorp teaching fellow in one section Incorporate technology and modern teaching methods to enhance the learning experience. Foster a classroom environment that is supportive, inclusive, and conducive to learning. Assessment and Evaluation Develop and oversee assessment practices that accurately measure student progress and inform instruction Use data to identify trends and address areas for improvement within the program Community and Communication Communicate effectively with students, parents and staff, promoting the Science program and its successes. Collaborate with other department chairs and school administrators to support interdisciplinary initiatives and school events.
