Job Summary:
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated CNC Mill Operator with Mastercam programming experience to join our precision machining team. This role involves setting up and operating CNC milling machines, programming with Mastercam, and working with a variety of materials—including a strong understanding of different types of steel. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, efficient, and experienced in high-precision, tool and die manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate CNC milling machines (3-axis, 4-axis, or 5-axis depending on equipment).
- Program parts using Mastercam, including toolpath creation, simulation, and post-processing.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T.
- Select appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials for specific jobs.
- Understand machining characteristics and requirements of various types of steel (e.g., carbon, alloy, stainless, tool steel).
- Make machine offsets and program edits as needed to ensure accuracy and surface finish.
- Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, etc.).
- Maintain tight tolerances and high-quality standards throughout the production run.
- Troubleshoot machining and programming issues; collaborate with engineering as needed.
- Perform basic machine maintenance and keep the work area clean and organized.
- Accurately document production data and maintain job records.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training preferred.
- 3 years of experience operating CNC milling machines.
- Proficient in Mastercam programming for mills.
- Familiarity with various steel types and how they affect cutting speeds, feeds, tooling, and coolant use.
- Strong understanding of G-code and CNC controls (Fanuc, Haas, Heidenhain, etc.).
- Proficient in interpreting complex blueprints and GD&T.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to hold tight tolerances.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with 4-axis or 5-axis CNC milling.
- Background in tool and die manufacturing or high-precision machining.
- Familiarity with hard milling and machining heat-treated steels.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems.
