Natorp Nursery is seeking an entry level Facilities & Fleet Service Assistant for our nursery maintenance division. Natorp’s Nursery is a large scale “plant farm” where millions of plants are grown annually. The applicant must have the desire to learn procedures, ability to work with technology, have minimal mechanical abilities as well as the desire to learn what is required of the Facilities & Fleet Service Assistant position. Must also exhibit an aptitude to perform general maintenance, ability to assist with maintaining the fleet, and is motivated to carry out projects. All responsibilities will be taught on the job and do not require advanced training. We offer competitive wages and are seeking career-oriented individuals.
Summary & Responsibilities: This is an entry level skill position. Team members will have a hands-on approach as they learn the aspects of the Natorp Operation such as, but not limited to the following:
- Keeping records of Natorp’s Vehicle ID service.
- Verifying vehicle ID information and adding information where necessary to the Asset list within MaintainX.
- Logging miles / hours on trucks, RTV’s, tractors.
- Inspecting the fleet vehicles for needed service / repairs.
- Performing power washing / cleaning of fleet vehicles prior to repair service by the mechanic.
- Performing power washing / cleaning of the fleet vehicles as part of ongoing PM duties.
- Repairing / replacing wheels and tires on farm wagons as needed.
- Repairing / replacing / repacking wheel bearings on wagons as part of a new vehicle maintenance program.
- Performing miscellaneous welding repairs to farm wagons.
- Checking the operation of lights and indicators on farm trucks, tractors, and RTV’s.
- Documenting discrepancies and communicating needed repairs.
- Performing tire changes or taking tires and rims to outside vendors for wheel and tire installation.
- Assist in continuing the wheel and tire replacement program started in 2024 to convert the farm wagon fleet to 4 lug filled tires.
- Keeping the shop areas cleaned up and assist in implementing a walk thru inspection program for the facility buildings for housekeeping.
- Performing various maintenance duties as directed by the Facilities Department.
- Assist the Mechanic as needed for completion of repairs to equipment.
- Keep inventory lists accurate and notify us when parts are needed.
- Perform oil changes and service as instructed by the mechanic.
- Help establish predictive maintenance based on hours / miles reported to allow service work to become a scheduled event based on accumulated hours / miles.
- Assist the Fleet Service Technician as needed and/or directed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to work outdoors.
- The ability to walk or stand on concrete or gravel.
- Ability to bend, pull, reach, and lift a maximum of 100 pounds.
Mental Demands:
- Ability to understand simple instructions (Written, Verbal and Demonstrated) and carry them out with minimal supervision.
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks.
- Ability to work in a team atmosphere.
- Ability to work independently.
