The job of Seasonal Grounds Worker is done for the purpose/s of providing grounds maintenance services at assigned site/s; ensuring attractive and safe grounds area/s and athletic fields; performing a variety of grounds maintenance operations; and maintaining grounds.
This job reports to Supervisor-Landscape & Support Services (JC655)
Essential Functions
- Applies fertilizer for the purpose of preserving the grounds in a healthy and safe
- Attends unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job
- Cleans landscaped areas and related items (e.g. storm drains, fields, parking lots, litter, etc.) for the purpose of preserving the grounds in a healthy and safe
- Loads and unloads equipment, materials, or furniture for the purpose of completing moving
- Maintains and makes minor repairs on lawn mowers, tractors, and other equipment for the purpose of ensuring that tools and equipment are in safe operating
- Maintains and improves landscaping (e.g. mow/trim lawns, rake leaves, pick up trash, plant/prune trees/hedges, weeding, etc.) for the purpose of preserving grounds in a healthy, attractive and safe
- Operates equipment (e.g. trucks, tractors, chippers, edger's saw, blowers, mowers, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining District grounds and
- Plants a variety of landscaping materials (e.g. lawns, shrubbery, flowers, etc.) for the purpose of keeping the grounds attractive and protecting against
- Requests materials, supplies, equipment, and/or support personnel for the purpose of completing assignments in a timely manner.
- Transports a variety of tools, equipment, supplies, for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.

- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work

Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: method of preparing and maintaining various plants, shrubs, lawns, trees, irrigation systems, etc.; and safety practices and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read and follow instructions, and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies are required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in building and grounds maintenance including tractors, weed whips, mowers, hand & power tools, etc.; and adhering to safety practices method of preparing and maintaining various plants; shrubs; lawns; etc.; and safety practices and procedures.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data, and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with others; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem-solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines, and problem-solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data, and consider a number of factors when using the equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes, and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data, and utilize a variety of types of job-related equipment. Some problem-solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem-solving with data may require independent interpretation, and problem-solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: meeting deadlines and schedules; working under time constraints and communicating with diverse groups.

Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 25% sitting; 60% walking, and 15% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to the risk of injury and/or illness.
