Seasonal Road Show Keeper/Trainer
Position Duration: April 24, 2025 - September 3, 2025
Compensation: $16.50 per hour
Natural Encounters, Inc. (NEI) is seeking a motivated individual for a Seasonal Road Show Keeper/Trainer position at the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley, MN (located 25 minutes from downtown Minneapolis). This is a temporary seasonal position(39.5 hours per week) lasting up to 120 days. Housing is not provided, so candidates should be local or able to secure their own accommodations.
This position is ideal for someone looking to expand their skills in animal care and training while working for a world-renowned animal training and educational facility. Seasonal Keepers/Trainers play a key role in daily husbandry and animal management, with opportunities to assist in training and show support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure animal welfare is the top priority
- Perform daily husbandry duties, including cleaning and disinfecting enclosures
- Create and implement approved enrichment activities
- Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting concerns to senior staff
- Prepare animal diets
- Assist with data entry and recordkeeping
- Observe and/or assist full-time trainers with training projects
- Provide show support as needed
Qualifications:
- Team player with strong collaboration skills
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment
- Strong observational skills and sensitivity to animal behavior
- Coachable mindset - willing to receive and act on feedback
- Ability to learn and follow all facility protocols (safety, medical, etc.)
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Previous experience in an animal care facility is helpful but not required
Other Requirements:
- Ability to adapt to changing routines
- Strong time management and ability to prioritize tasks
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Comfortable working in a noisy and sometimes hectic environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for 8 hours per day
Schedule:
- 8-hour shifts
- Weekend and holiday availability required
