Job Summary
A Design Engineer at Cummins is responsible for the design, release, and testing of Compressed Natural Gas systems. The role involves packaging of components, ensuring proper fitment, and FEA analysis for compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implementation of new systems and updates of existing systems
- Assembly and testing of new designs and proposed updates
- Creation of all 3D models using Autodesk Inventor and verification using Autodesk Inventor FEA and Autodesk Nastran
- Communication with vendors and customers on design requirements and improvements
- Support design, fabrication, assembly, and procurement activities through conceptual and detail designs, drawings revisions, drawing releases, and engineering change notice creation
- Engineering liaison activities with procurement, production, suppliers, and customers with guidance from Senior Engineer or Chief Engineer
- Work with production on prototype builds to ensure ease of assembly and bom verification
- Hold concept, design, and production reviews of systems
- Participate in Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Support activities between Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, and Quality Control/Quality Assurance
- Develop and maintain bill of materials for both new and existing projects
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 2-5 years of experience in mechanical design or a related field
- Knowledge of CAD software and FEA software
- Ability to communicate effectively with vendors and customers
- Willingness to travel on a limited basis
