NRT’s environmental educators work in a collaborative atmosphere with other Trust staff who are dedicated to providing excellent individual and community programs to diverse audiences using the specific features of the NRT’s 154-acre Sheep Pasture property.
Educators design and implement environmental programs for pre-K through 12, scouts, families, and adults in this position. Educators work within the education team for collaboration, but should be able to manage assigned responsibilities independently as needed. Experience providing hands-on learning experiences and utilizing resources of outdoor learning environments are highly desired.
The successful candidate will have the ability to independently read, present, and create factually accurate STEAM curriculum as part of the Trust's school-age learning programs. Familiarity with MA science standards is highly desirable. Enthusiasm for working with children of varied ages is necessary for this position, as a significant amount of time is spent teaching students in grades K-6; students up to college age and adult learners are also involved in programming at times, as well. Educators also are responsible for daily operation and presentation of the Trust's summer camp programs, vacation programs, and other seasonal education events.
Educators are involved with the operations of the Trust, including creation and operation of events, public promotion of the Trust and its programs, record keeping, fundraising assistance, and other administrative duties as needed. The successful candidate should use good professional presentation and judgment in all interactions.
Requirements:
B.A. or B.S. is required, with a major or concentration in environmental education, environmental interpretation, biology, natural resource management, science education, environmental studies, forestry, sustainable agriculture, or closely related course of study.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including positive customer service presentation, are required. Broad working knowledge of wildlife, ecology, and natural history, and a willingness to learn specific local information is also needed. Experience with providing environmental education programming in outdoor settings is highly preferred.
Must be able to lead educational programs in outdoor areas and on unimproved trails in all seasons. Some lifting to 40 pounds is required in this position. Experience with, or willingness to learn about, working with farm animals and smaller reptiles, mammals, and/or birds in an educational setting is a plus. Animal care is not a primary component of this position.
Technology skills desired: MS Suite; Google applications, Sharepoint ; Constant Contact; social media/ website management applications. Will train the right candidate as needed.
Must have a clean Massachusetts driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle, as some limited travel on behalf of the Trust is required. This position is typically a M-F position with a regular schedule, but will require some nights and weekends for classes, meetings, or events. Public transportation is not accessible for this location; relocation assistance is not provided. Candidates must be local to the position at the time of the chosen start date.
