What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wastewater Operator position at Natural Systems Utilities?
SUMMARY: This position is fixed at the Caldwell, NJ Wastewater Treatment Plant and requires a valid NJ S2 Wastewater License. The operator is an independent well-organized initiative-taker able to manage his/her own time to complete assigned tasks in their given allotted time.
Duties And Responsibilities
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be 21 years of age or older 40-hour work week: Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30 pm (30-minute lunch) Must be available to work weekends and holidays as requested Overtime as required Available for emergency situations Prior wastewater experience required Certificates, licenses, and registrations: Computer skills required:

Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform critical testing of facility operations, such as PH, dissolved oxygen, chlorine, etc., in order to monitor system condition
- Complete Discharge Monitoring Reports as required by the facility permits
- Perform general preventative maintenance on treatment plant equipment such as blower oil, filter and belt changes and pulling and inspecting submersible pumps, etc.
- Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all phases of facility operations
- Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all equipment and plant maintenance
- Assist to prepare monthly written operating report based on facility’s operation and/or maintenance records for the client, employer or regulatory agency as required
- Inform Supervisor in a timely manner of plant problems, upsets, plant expansion, repairs, etc.
- Work conscientiously, adhere to EH&S policies and processes, and be aware of and report safety hazards
- Required to be part of a 24 hour on call rotation
- Be prepared to discuss in a professional manner the plant operations with employer, client, visitors or regulatory personnel
- Collect required samples, log in samples correctly and accurately, and submit samples to laboratory and review results to ensure permit compliance
- Operate plants to meet all regulatory guidelines and responsibilities
- Assist maintenance personnel with pump, blower, motor, valve, etc. removal
- Maintain accurate records for gasoline, mileage, timesheets, expenses, etc.
- Work scheduled weekends and occasional holidays for assigned route
- Project a positive image to operators, clients, regulatory agencies, engineers, etc.
- Confined Space Entry – this may be required on occasion after thorough training provided by NSU
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management
- Valid NJ Driver’s License required
- NJ S2 Wastewater License required
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Familiar with LogCheck or similar e-work order software
- Compensation for this position will be based on the candidate's experience and relevant licensing.*
