Overview
We are a small transportation company based in Columbus, Ohio, specializing in local logistics solutions with dry van trailers. With our own fleet of semi-trucks and experienced owner-operators, we are actively seeking motivated and entrepreneurial Freight Agents to join our growing team. This is a commission-based, independent contractor (1099) position. Must have book of business.
The ideal candidate will have experience in freight brokerage and truckload sales, with a proven ability to connect our operations team with local shippers and expeditors. We offer competitive compensation, including $50/hour plus commission for qualified candidates.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Brokerage-Specific Tasks:
- Prospect and secure new customers using a "hunter" approach via telemarketing, internet research, networking, and referrals.
- Identify and generate sales opportunities by analyzing customer needs, understanding key decision-makers, and developing tailored approaches for each client.
- Develop and maintain a book of business by delivering persuasive and entrepreneurial sales pitches.
- Follow up on leads, respond to RFIs (Request for Information) and RFQs (Request for Quote), and quote customers with accurate and timely information.
- Collaborate with the operations team to build strong relationships with local shippers and expeditors, fostering long-term partnerships.
Qualifications
We are seeking candidates with the following skills and experience:
- Education: Associate degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in truckload transportation, freight brokerage, or logistics.
- Entrepreneurial Drive: Passion for sales and a self-starter mentality with the drive to exceed company goals tied to personal financial incentives.
- Relationship Building: Strong ability to build and maintain customer relationships.
- Communication: Excellent persuasion, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, and web-based platforms, with the ability to adapt to emerging technologies.
- Presentation Skills: Creative and confident in presenting solutions to customers.
