Nature Sacred, a national operating foundation nonprofit in Annapolis, MD, dedicated to the creation of community-led, contemplative green spaces nationwide, is seeking a Sr Vice President of Philanthropy (SVPP). The Senior VP of Philanthropy (SVPP) will be an executive leader, assisting in achieving Nature Sacred’s mission to inspire and support the creation of public green spaces that offer a temporary place of sanctuary, encourage reflection, provide solace, and engender peace and well-being. For over 25 years, Nature Sacred has partnered with more than 130 communities across the country to infuse nearby nature into places where healing is often needed most: under-resourced communities, schools, hospitals, prisons and more.
The SVPP is responsible for leading a diversified revenue portfolio to support the entire organization. This includes all revenue efforts from philanthropy and traditional development work, to fee for service, and other incomes. The SVPP reports to the CEO and manages the Development and Marketing teams to ensure synchronous messaging externally to advance the movement of this work while generating income to support the sustainability of the organization. The SVPP works in close coordination with the Chief Programs Officer and VP of Design & Sacred Places to coordinate efforts and develop compelling revenue opportunities.
Sr VP of Philanthropy
Working in partnership with the CEO, and in collaboration with the senior leadership team, the SVPP leads strategy and manages all revenue-related work from individual, institutional, corporate, and non-traditional revenue streams. The SVPP is in partnership with the CEO regarding Board development and management to maximize impact and revenue opportunities. The SVPP supervises and oversees the Development and Marketing Teams including FTE and all consultants. The SVPP is responsible and oversees all marketing efforts by the Marketing Team, whether directly or indirectly related to fundraising. Additionally, all revenue-related events are managed and/or overseen by the SVPP. The SVPP is also responsible for the CRM for the organization.
The SVPP is responsible for all funding proposals, budgets, and reports associated with revenue from start to finish.
The SVPP is an executive leader on Nature Sacred’s staff and is responsible for setting an example overall, as well as attending weekly staff and departmental meetings and working with internal staff and external consultants on a regular basis for efforts beyond Sacred Place creation, in service of the Nature Sacred mission.
Qualifications and application instructions
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned fundraiser with expertise in business development and partnerships, 10–15 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: environmental issues, social justice, or healthcare, and the ability to effectively collaborate with a small administrative team. Proposal and grant writing experience is preferred.
Candidates should possess solutions-oriented abilities and attitude above all, an ability to interact and manage diverse groups, and an aptitude for maintaining systems to efficiently manage a multitude of situations. Values alignment and mission commitment is critical for success of the role and organization.
Salary is commensurate with experience ($140K to $160K) and includes health and dental benefits, which are paid 100% for the employee by Nature Sacred. Typical office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. – the position’s duties may require additional evening and weekends hours as needed for events, staff retreats, etc. This role is based in Annapolis with a hybrid schedule, requiring part of each week to be spent working in our Annapolis office and the remainder remote.
