Position: Director of Director of SBIR/STTR Programs

We are seeking an experienced Director of SBIR/STTR Programs to lead our strategic engagement with the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. This role will drive the identification, capture, and execution of SBIR/STTR opportunities, positioning Navaide as a leader in delivering innovative solutions to the Department of Defense (DoD) and other federal agencies.

Locations: National Capital Region (NCR), San Diego or Remote with Travel

How You Will Make An Impact

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in government R&D programs, technology commercialization, and business development within the defense sector. They will work closely with internal stakeholders, government program offices, and industry partners to transition SBIR/STTR-funded innovations into scalable solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Program Leadership: Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for Navaide’s SBIR/STTR initiatives, ensuring alignment with company growth objectives.
• Business Development: Identify, capture, and secure SBIR/STTR funding opportunities through proactive engagement with government agencies and industry partners.
• Proposal Management: Lead the proposal development process, collaborating with technical teams to craft compelling and competitive SBIR/STTR submissions.
• Technology Transition: Work with internal teams and external stakeholders to transition successful SBIR/STTR projects into production contracts and long-term government programs.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and maintain strong relationships with DoD, DHS, DOE, and other federal SBIR/STTR program offices, prime contractors, and research institutions.
• Compliance & Reporting: Ensure adherence to SBIR/STTR program requirements, funding agency guidelines, and reporting standards.
• Market Analysis: Stay ahead of emerging technology trends and federal R&D priorities to position Navaide for future SBIR/STTR opportunities.
• Mentorship & Collaboration: Support Navaide’s innovation ecosystem by mentoring internal teams and fostering collaboration with universities, labs, and small business partners.
  
  

Relevant Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, public policy, or a related field.
• 7 years of experience in SBIR/STTR program management, government R&D funding, or technology commercialization.
• Strong understanding of DoD acquisition, innovation ecosystems, and technology transition pathways.
• Experience in proposal development, grant writing, and securing SBIR/STTR awards.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
  
  

Preferred

• Advanced degree (MS, MBA, or Ph.D.) in a relevant field.
• Experience working with or for DoD program offices, government labs, or defense prime contractors.
• Prior experience managing technical teams or innovation initiatives.
• Familiarity with defense enterprise systems, digital transformation, and emerging technologies.
• Active security clearance or ability to obtain one.
