What are the responsibilities and job description for the HVAC Technician position at Navajo County?
Under general supervision, performs technical work of moderate difficulty installing and maintaining HVAC equipment; performs related work as assigned.

- Troubleshoots HVAC equipment to determine cause(s) of malfunction and how to repair.
- Performs preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment.
- Installs and maintains electrical controls, pumps, piping and refrigerant lines for satisfactory operations.
- Assembles and connects parts for systems in preparation for installation.
- Adjusts pumps, humidifiers, filters and valves to obtain maximum efficiency in heating and cooling operations.
- Lubricates equipment and recharges systems as needed or required to extend life of parts and systems.
- Programs and calibrates controls for proper operations and for timing, temperature, and other variables.
- Performs related work in order to install and improve HVAC systems: finish concrete, finish carpentry, plumbing (water and gas), welding, sheet metal fabrication, metal fabrication, electrical, block and painting.
- Oversees work of contractors providing new construction of heating and cooling systems and suppliers for replacement parts and suggested repair strategies.
- Obtains quotes and recommends items necessary for purchase; obtains approval for purchases from supervisor.
- Maintains appropriate records and files.
- Knowledge of practices, methods, tools and materials used in a variety of trades associated with commercial buildings and facilities including detention and correctional facilities.
- Knowledge of principals and practices of electricity as applied to HVAC equipment and systems.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Knowledge of chiller facility control system and operating software.
- Skill in electronic diagnostics.
- Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches and applicable building codes.
- Skill in monitoring, controlling, analyzing and recording data from the Carrier Comfort Control iVU system.
- Skill in effectively communicating verbally and in writing
- Skill to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public
